    Alarm Company?

When I last researched the topic, Sonitrol had the most effective system. Their product is unique and was utilized primarily by gun shops and jewelry stores. Sonitrol is not available everywhere, but if it's available where you are it's worth a look.

Have you ever accidently discharged in your house or apartment?

I fired my Glock .40 (Hydroshock round) into a pair of $250 binoculars that were about 12" from my foot. I was impressed that the slug didn't exit the vinyl binocular case. It was 7 AM. I'd been up all night and was in a hurry. Any pirates out there need a good deal on Swift 10X50 binoculars?

    Are alarm systems worth it

Preacherman is right on the money. For most people a monitored alarm system is a waste of money. All you need is an alarm that makes a racket inside and out. If you were a retail business with jewelry or guns, etc., that's a different matter and a different thread.

    To carry or not...

If you have good judgement and you know how to use it, you should carry. I would certainly avoid any heated exchanges at the protest. If someone flashed a knife at me at a protest, I would retreat, if possible, and point them out to the nearest cop. Regardless of the circumstances, I would...

Houston Pawn Shop shootout caught on tape

As the former owner of 2 Dallas pawn shops I can tell you that dealing with thugs is a part of the business. It's imperative to have a well practiced plan in the event of such an occurance. We came within a gnats whisker of being robbed once. Fortunately, myself and the 2 best men to deal...

    DFW dealers

If you decide to hit the gun show, "Doc's" was $10 cheaper than Bachman (at the same show), when I was Glock shopping. Doc is a dentist that sets up at all the local gun shows. Like the earlier posters said, Bachman doesn't offer any real discounts from their storefront.

1 way to catch a car burglar

    >> I would be cautious about deliberately getting oneself involved in such situations while on your job. Are you really doing what your company wants you to do and are paying you to do? Is it really wise to do this sort of police work while on your non-police work job? If you got yourself killed...

security guards aren't always the brightest in the bunch

    >>Offhand, the only state I can think of that lets a citizen employ deadly force to protect mere property is Texas (there may be a couple of others).<< While there is some case law in Texas that supports the right of a citizen to defend their property at night with the use of deadly force, it...

1 way to catch a car burglar

What did the cops say when they got there?? That they were quite startled by the gun shot, as they were anticipating a quiet lunch. And that they were aware that a male, female "team" had been commiting BMV's in the area. 2nd--------if you did have to fire on them, did YOU escalate the...

1 way to catch a car burglar

Prior experience had indicated police response time is reduced dramtically when there's a gun shot. That being said, perhaps I didn't use the best judgement.

1 way to catch a car burglar

I manage a strip shopping center in Dallas that was experiencing a dramatic increase in car burglaries, usually during lunch time. I loaded an extention ladder, tool box and reciprocating saw in the bed of my truck and parked it at the center. I borrowed the car of one of my tenants and...

    How I got here...

"Then I heard that you are a shop owner in the building that was being vandalized and robbed and you had actually just staked out your own property. Is the later correct? If so I see nothing wrong with what happened. I would have done similar if not the same if it had been my property. Why would...

    How I got here...

An acquaintance pointed out there was an old, less than flattering news article concerning my arrest (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=12541&highlight=jobe) posted here. What I found here is a tremendous brotherhood of civil, intelligent, insightful folks with one of the most...
