    Camping/woods knife

The heck with that $90. Get one of these for $25 with 7Cr17MoV steel.

    First failure

Yeah, I think the Colt magazine with its welded baseplate helped.

    First failure

Glad you’re ok. I know my face got peppered.

    First failure

The follower seems ok but the magazine case is now oversized both fore/aft and sideways. I don’t think it’s worth pounding back in shape. I’ll look for brass splatter.

    First failure

No bulging on other cases. So far as I know the barrel is unmodified

    First failure

My grips are ok and the laser works! (Whew). The magazine binds when it gets in deep enough to contact the mag release so I think it’s scrap (unless I get really bored one day).

    First failure

Ok, I had to go back and check, 10gr doesn’t come close to filling the case but is a very noticeable double charge.

    First failure

I am sure glad it didn’t hurt my Crimson Trace grips. I guess that’s why they have that armor sheet under the grips. Lol Also very glad I had my safety glasses on!!!

    First failure

The seating bulge is very noticeable. The load was 5gr of 231 so I don’t suspect a double charge. That would have overflowed the case. The rest seem to have retained the 1.22” coal. And plunk cleanly. It looks like I crimped these with a factory crimp die but the crimp might be enough on the...

    First failure

I do seat and crimp on a single stage press in separate operations so I guess it is possible I had my head up and locked that day and skipped the crimp step.

    First failure

I suspect it was bullet setback. I had another one feed bad and set back after that. I will have to recrimp the ones I shot. The mag didn’t quite dissemble itself but the mag spring isn’t a spring any more. I am very conscious about double charge. I load in blocks of 50 and check charge with a...

    First failure

For the first time ever I had a reloaded round fail. It locked my 1911 up tight, but no structural damage I could find. I was able to shoot another 50 rounds after this one with no change in performance or accuracy.

    7.62 NATO Question

If you want to do an interesting experiment get some 1/4” or smaller washers and drill the center hole out with a 19/32” or “N” size drill bit. This will make the inside diameter of the washer roughly equivalent to the inside diameter of the lands in your 7.62 barrel. Drop the drilled washers...

    7.62 NATO Question

I must agree with what others have said. The critical measurement is ogive to the lands, not COAL to the tip. COAL is just a quick and easy approximation toward that. If you seat those to the same COAL you are actually moving the ogive way forward. Seat to the cannalure.

What WON'T you carry and why?

Ah, but for carry use the HiPoint is eminently disposable. After it goes bang you can throw it in the river with no regrets.

What WON'T you carry and why?

we are certainly in different camps on this point. Other than my 1911 in condition one I won’t carry a pistol *with* a manual safety. The second or two taken up fumbling with a manual safety could easily be all the difference, no matter how you practice things happen.

    Chamfering vs flaring/crimping for 9mm?

The only time I chamfer is after I trim case length, which is seldom for straight pistol cases.

    Auto_loader with hammer Question

Just to carry on, it is FUD, (one ‘D’) an internet acronym for "fear, uncertainty and doubt", which really doesn’t apply in the original citation. FUD [ ef-yoo-dee, fuhd ]SHOW IPA abbreviation, noun, plural FUDs. fear, uncertainty, and doubt: Her article should help reduce FUD and increase...

Deer retrieval unit finally done ....lets see yours!

I am actually considering an e-bike designed for game retrieval. 30+ mph, 80 mile range (yeah right), $2K

    Getting back to shooting

Sounds like a great justification to buy an off-road electric scooter.
