Well, in reality, unless things have changed, CCI and Winchester are the only two manufacturers of 17 HMR loads. Whether or not they tailor specifications for other brands ( Federal, Hornady, etc ) I really don`t know.
I wouldn`t hesitate to buy a CZ rifle in 17HMR, just based on input from people who know about rifles and the plethora of positive reviews. Having said that, I`ve come to really enjoy the 17HMR as a fun range gun. I have a " basic " Savage 93R17 with a Vortex 2-7 Crossfire scope that`s been a...
Bought a Vortex Diamondback Tactical, 4-16X40 FFP to go with my Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223 when I joined a club with a 500 yard range. 1,000+ rounds through the gun and no issues with the scope ( or gun ). Been very satisfied with both.
I`m not after tiny groups at 500 yards from my Savage Model 12 LRPV in .223, but I do want to minimize carbon buildup. Some folks on here whose advice I respect very much talk about the non-necessity of cleaning after each range session but I`ve decided to go ahead and soak the throat and first...
Yay!! Always feels good, at least to me, to verify that there`s not some inherent equipment problem ( broken or just plain bad ) and it`s something simple or that it`s the guy pulling the trigger.
I hope that the OP will keep us up to speed on how this progresses. I`m far from a rifle expert, but I would think that this is something we might all encounter at some point.
I think it`s probably more of a matter of what you feel comfortable doing. My rifles have " .223 Rem " stamped on their barrels. So, I choose to shoot .223 only. Could I shoot 5.56? In all probability yes. Would I have a little nagging concern in the back of my mind? Probably. I go shooting to...
Yep, not personally paying too much attention to weight since this would be a range only rifle. My Savage Model12 LRPV has got to be 12-13 lbs all up, but then weight`s your friend in bench shooting. Thing is an absolute beast but will flat shoot.
I`m personally considering the Bergara HMR line, probably in 6.5 Creed, for a 1K yard range rifle. That or a Tikka UPR.
Really am enjoying my Savage 110 Storm and Model 12 LRPV in .223 as well. OP might want to take a look at the 110 Storm in .308.
That`s an interesting potential conundrum. In order to hope for the continued existence of the Remington brand, we would have to " forgive " the man who ran them into the ground? How about we hope for Remington`s success " in spite of " Ken D`Arcy. Is that possible? Not trying to argue a point...
Pretty much it in a nutshell. A lot of us Baby Boomers either grew up in the field with an 870 or 1100 or the guy walking next to us had one. The Remington name is a part of outdoor Americana, sort of like Cabela`s ( how many folks who have done pretty much ANYTHING outdoors haven`t owned and...
Just a suggestion if you`ve never hunted quail over a dog. When you walk up behind the dog on point, don`t be looking down at the dog. Be scanning the horizon above the dog. That`s where the birds will be and you can get on target more quickly. When I learned that, my successful shots went WAY...
As am I. Even if it`s not the original Big Green, it doesn`t seem right not to have Remington guns in the field and at the range. I`m pulling for them.
Never was a problem for me. Essentially all the quail hunting I did with my 12 gauge was wild birds. They are up and out pretty quick, plus an open choke like IC shooting 9`s or 8`s is going to spread out. I`ve only hunted put birds once. That was enough. Other than enjoying watching the dogs...
Hunting wild birds or put birds? If the former, take something that fits and is quick to the target. If the latter, you can pretty much take a broom and do fine.
