New Mike Beliveau video about Paterson Colt

Interesting video, but needs a part #2 and maybe #3

Remington #10 caps @ Bass pro ONLINE

CCI #10 was too small for my Pietta 1860, but the Rem #10 was a perfect fit. What revolver do you have?

    Homemade Wonder Wads

I've been using beeswax and olive oil, half and half by weight. That has been working great, way better than the almost dry wonderwads. Cleaner barrel and cylinder and enough gets on the cylinder face when pushing them in to keep the cylinder face lubed enough to turn free after a few rounds...

    Number 10 percussion caps

I just ordered Rem #10 caps from Bass Pro Shops. A little spendy but surprised to see them!

    Number 10 percussion caps

That is a good idea! Thanks... I made a push stick with an angled head to get a good even push on the caps when I tried the CCI #10s. Better the bullet down the barrel then down the side forcing on caps! The homemade caps are a perfect fit, so no problem there.

    Number 10 percussion caps

I would get some of the CCI #10s if they would fit my stock Pietta nipples. Tried some and they was hard to force them on with a push stick, and about half didn't fire till the second time around. First time was probably seating them better... I thought about turning down my stock nipples...

    Number 10 percussion caps

About the only place to find caps is Gunbrokers. Most are bid to crazy prices. But if you go to Gunbrokers and do a search for Bosley, you see several pages of his items for sale. Look on the last page, #7 right now and he has CCI #10 for $120 per 1000 pack. Add $30 for shipping. Instant...

    Probably a silly question

Good excuse to get a flintlock! I was just thinking about getting one. I had a TC rifle a long time ago, and now a Pietta 1860 pistol. The 1860 has been going with me shooting more than any of my other pistols lately.

    Home made caps

Ideas, but not tested, lol... I'm guessing the factory made caps have a wet compound sprayed in. Running an explosive dry powder mix through a powder measure doesn't sound good... maybe we can work out a wet mix we can just load the cap with a eye dropper. Not sure how well it will mix with...

    Home made caps

The split caps probably had glue in the sides so they wouldn't open to go on the nipples... Single layer pop can caps, they split when fired but 90% fall off the open side when the cylinder rotates, easy to pick off any that are left on a nipple My pistol is the 1860 Colt... A faster way to put...

    Home made caps

Nice box at Dollar Tree for storing homemade caps. It will hold a few layers, and the lid has a rubber gasket seal.

    Home made caps

I made another batch of caps. The last 6 caps I just put in a drop of Duco glue, no Acetone mixed in... how much is too much question. The drop of glue spread the priming mix out to the sides some. As you can see in the pictures two of the caps split, I was forcing them on with a push stick...

    Home made caps

I shot some of the reduced priming compound in a batch of caps today. They worked perfect. I seen one of your earlier posts about the caps being too hot. I also tested some caps made out of the aluminum baking pans. They cut better and not as ragged edges and none of the little pieces left...

    Home made caps

It is a good for glue for attaching the wood sticks on the red cup caps to make powder measures too. The orange sticks in the wife's fingernail kit work perfect for scoop handles and are a perfect diameter to tamp down the powder in the caps... I don't think she will miss a few (looking over...

    Home made caps

That's good to know. I thought I messed up a batch using too much.. so had to test them before I went shooting again.

    Home made caps

I was wondering what the limit of Duco you can add before it becomes a problem... first time I added 4 drops into what I thought was about a tablespoon, and my last batch I added two more drops of Duco for 6 drops. I'm mixing in a small thimble like cup with thick sides, it works perfect but I...

    Home made caps

Interesting, another thing to try. I'll have to look through my shelf of powders and see what I have for shotgun powders... I added a couple extra drops of Duco glue to the Acetone in the batch I made this evening. I know you have experimented a lot and I'm curious what the most Duco you have...

    Cap and ball revolver newbie

That makes sense, seen adjacent chamber caps left off on youtube before and no chain fire. But that made me wonder if a loose cap would let a spark in and fire that out of battery cap. I'm probably overthinking something that would be hard to prove.

    Home made caps

I seen your post about spreading the cutter edges, I might try that down the road. Wealth of info here and much appreciated by everyone I'm sure! I tried a cylinder full of both kinds of caps and all 12 went pop with authority, 100%. I'll try them with full loads tomorrow or the next day. I...
