    AR-15 Gas key screws sheared

It isn't a difficult task to remove the broken screws room the bolt carrier. There are a couple of ways to skin that cat. Remove the firing pin from the bolt carrier and soak the carrier in some oil is the first step. Then read this link from start to finish. Scope Base Screw Stripped While it...

What to do about cleaning rod damage.

I stand corrected. Thank you. I agree it would be a healthy DIY project for someone who owns a lathe or an excellent excuse to buy one if one has the means.

What to do about cleaning rod damage.

Counter bore the barrel. Not only will it save the length but will likely improve the accuracy and make the rifle useful again. Are you talking about a 6.5 Carcano? If so the bore diameter isn't .257 it should be in the close proximity of .264 to .268 in diameter. The tolerances were very...

Less then a buck recoil pad.

Nice work Troy and thank you for sharing your idea. I'll have to give that a try for my Arisaka build.

    Scope Base Screw Stripped

I'm glad that you were successful. Many souls aren't as fortunate or patient and the later of the two types of people mentioned almost always prevail. Great job!

    Scope Base Screw Stripped

OP Broken and stripped screws can and are often the bane of anyone who encounters one or many like some of us have either by design or professions. Extractors can vary as much in design as the professions they are used in and the application for the type of fastener to be removed. In your case...

What gunsmithing or repairs have you done today

Here is what used to be many peoples trash that has become my treasure. The type 99 Arisaka project in its infancy. It all started a couple of years ago with the purchase of 2 orphaned barreled receivers for 10 shekels each and now has turned into pile of parts with a stock that nobody else...

What have you done in the reloading room today

My minion and I were busy today cleaning and full length sizing and sorting by head stamp about 200 once fired .308 win range brass. He said Dad lets make some bullets. The cost for spending time with the boy? Priceless!!! and I love it. :) Jeremy

    Mauser 98 firing pin

Yeah its a crap shoot when dealing with used gun parts. You never really know what you're going to get no matter what company you order parts from because the parts have been taken more often than not from orphaned receivers or they are declared new old stock. Well I hope that it works out for you.

    Mauser 98 firing pin

Apex gun parts. You could try to carefully stoning the burrs smooth and check the bolt body where the pin protrudes through the hole for further burrs and grease covered dirt causing further wear. Don't throw that firing pin away if you do end up replacing it. Now you'll have a cocking piece...

What gunsmithing or repairs have you done today

I zelled him some shekels last night for the purpose of getting a couple of cases of beer or taking his old lady to dinner. I know he'll take his Smith to lunch with the money just to keep the network open for me. He and I served in the Army together so he's my brother from another mother. We go...

What gunsmithing or repairs have you done today

Nothing today since I don't have some of the parts to complete the next build. Which is a stock and a barrel for another Small Ring Mauser and it will be chambered for .257 Roberts. A friend of mine who lives in Co. has shipped me a 7 pound box of large ring parts that was given to him to give...

Which and who's tools to remove and install barrels?

Don't rule out getting your own tools just yet. Hobby smithing is how I started and have become more advanced over time. There are a bunch of members on this forum who will echo the same sentiments. It doesn't take a bunch of money to get started. A couple hundred shekels would do the trick to...

Which and who's tools to remove and install barrels?

What action/receiver is your 6.5 CM barrel on? Until we know that an intelligent answer won't be given. Because each action/receiver will more often than not have its own wrench design and I presume you are looking for a wrench for a barrel nut. Besides it isn't the tool that makes the man it's...

Beretta Tomcat, cannot remove retention pin to access firing pin

Removing metal in such a critical area is always a challenge there is never an easy way to do it. The only way that I would even attempt it would be to use a carbide burr to remove just enough of what has been peened and then try to press it out. From the looks of what you have shown us it was...
