    2024 Hunting Picture Thread

I took a buddy to the property where I hunt deer today, to look for edible mushrooms. We didn't find any, except a single large Pheasant Back that had been ravaged by ants, but we did find a turkey nest full of eggs.... I've spent my life in the woods, and this is the first time I've come...

    Starling Shooting

This is one of those "why didn't I think of that" ideas. :D

What is going on with guns

Yep. Congress makes laws, not the ATF. The populace are fed up with unelected bureaucrats proclaiming "laws".

What was once lost is now found. :)

I experienced another one of those "incidents" today. Several days ago, I washed the linen from our bed. I put the fitted sheet, the top sheet, and 5 pillowcases in the washer. When the load was done, I put the damp laundry in the dryer. When it was dry, I took it out to put back on the bed...

    Starling Shooting

I tried doing that when I was a teenager, back in the mid-70s, for the same reason as your grandpa, here in KY. I just gave up eventually because I was overwhelmed by the numbers....there aren't enough shotgun shells out there...

    1897 ammo

I used to shoot squirrels with a .410 pump, with good results. Like many other calibers/gauges it just needs to be used within its limitations.

    1897 ammo

When did the ammo companies start using them? I cut open several in the 70s and again in the 90s and did not see any sleeves. Most of my inventory is from the 1990s. I bought big back then and haven't had much opportunity to use them in the last 30 years or so.

    S & W model 625 in .45 Colt

Mine is a safe queen, with a 5" bull barrel and unfluted cylinder. Best trigger I've ever felt on a handgun. Cylinder gap is a little larger than it ought to be, but I've never felt it necessary to have a smith close it up.

Gun powder. It's a beautiful sight to see.

    And True Blue as well!

Gun powder. It's a beautiful sight to see.

I have a Cabela's and a Sportsman's Warehouse within 20 miles, but their selections and prices are nothing to crow about. Fortunately I don't need much. The only purchase I could see on the horizon would be a pistol powder suitable for .38 Special. I have probably more than I'll ever use for...

Sierra Game King vs. Hornady Interlock

This is just what I'm looking for. I can load them to 2450 or so using 4895, and probably other propellants. Thanks.

    1897 ammo

Unless it's Federal Flite Control, buckshot won't have a shot sleeve. It will contact the barrel.

Not showing "in stock" in the Lexington store. Wildbillz, where is your store?

I have no idea where people even shoot anymore.

I'm a lot closer to Lexington that you are. Around here, that might get you a 1/5 acre lot with a modest house.

Sierra Game King vs. Hornady Interlock

I'm not sure I get the thrust of your question (if it's not a jest), but the sun was setting, deer season was winding down, and I didnt' have a deer in the freezer yet.

I have no idea where people even shoot anymore.

Yes, that's correct, and it's heartbreaking. I have friends and relatives who became high-school teachers, and they all either retired as soon as they could, or quit and took up other professions, because of the abuse they received from their students. Things are really different from when I...

Sierra Game King vs. Hornady Interlock

I try to do that when I can. In 2022 I shot a young buck at about 40 yards. He was facing directly toward me and wouldn't turn. I aimed directly at the heart area and shot, and the bullet went exactly where I aimed it. It was a Nosler BT and it liquefied the heart and lungs, and also...

Sierra Game King vs. Hornady Interlock

No problem, I wasn't offended at all.

Sierra Game King vs. Hornady Interlock

I already happened to have both sitting on a shelf, just waiting for my attention. By the way, Natchez has had both in stock regularly for the past couple of years, at least in .30 caliber anyway. I've only been reloading for a little over a year and bought those boxes about a year ago...

    45 Colt in a Rifle

Lots of good replies here. A suggestion to the original poster: You might try loading with Trail Boss or Tin Star in .460 cases if you can find any (or have any on hand). In that size case you could probably get a hunting load worked up. An even better idea might be black powder or Pyrodex...
