all magnum means is 'larger', or something close. i never looked it up. a magnum of champagne is the big bottle they drink after a race. case design and receiver construction, along with barrel length are all major factors in considering 'magnums'. just because it's a magnum not mean better...

I've shot 168gr. xlc's, and had so so performance out of my '06. there is nothing like 180 gr. partitions for ANYTHING THAT WALKS. I agree that shot placement is what counts, and if you can't hit what you're aiming at, then don't shoot/hunt

well...shoot the rabbits!!!! go over the ground, checking for rocks and anything else that might bounce a bullet first though if you got neighbors that close

I suppose an sks is ok if that's what you can afford. I have 4 of them. the chinese one has a sling swivel on the cheek side of the wood and it is most uncomfy on my right cheek. great for plinking. there are better choices out there for deer sized game for the same price as an sks

it is always the first and maybe the second shot. I'm figuring that is a cold barrel problem, but have been told it's probably the front screw. I don't mind shooting at the range, but try to get a deer or elk to understand that I need to compensate. My other 70's have never had this problem. I...

I have some 3/4 inch loads worked up for my 1949 model 70 30.06...why does the first shot (no matter what) shoot 2 inches high? The only thing I can think of is the front screw. can anyone help? Thanks:fire:
