Coronach I have the original slide stop; bought my M&P last March.

I have an M&P 40. I found it to be considerably superior ergonomically to my Glock 22 (now sold), as well as having less snap recoil-wise and a better trigger feel. My only complaint is the impossible-to-use slide stop lever.
