i bought one gun online. transfer was smooth. i usualy find guns cheaper online but the transfer fee and shipping usualy cancels out the cheaper online price. another reason to buy local. you get it day. no waiting for it to come in.

I would check online for local ffl holders as mentioned above, gunbroker.com has a listing by zipcode. budsgunshop.com does as well. some business's will have a ffl even if they don't sell guns. in my area there is a hvac repair that has one. as do a few private individuals.

im thinking about a winchester sx-ar 308 my self. pretty much a copy fn scar 308. uses same magazines. the mags are the down fall of it though. 3 20 round mags on gun broker go for 280 dollars.

i bought a winchester m70 223 wssm at walmart for 350. it shot all the place at 100 yards. sold it at cabelas for 375.

Not really a tactical reason but it has killed my deer the last 2 seasons. chose it for lower recoil then 30 06 but almost as much power. When some people find out I have a 308 they get all scared because they think it is a evil round that only military snipers should have for 1000 yard shots.
