I read an article recently about "The Wild Bunch" CASS shooting and thought I'd like that. I talked to a guy I know who shoots CASS and read the requirements. I was taken back to tell the truth, I have a very nice 1911 but no lever action or shotgun. I thought perhaps I could get a decent SxS...
I don't know if your loads are over max or not (it would be an easy check on any of the powder manufacturers sites though) but check your OAL. I had some reloads that were way too long and they made things very sticky. I would check your load data though.
You might go to a couple of your local shops (or check gunbroker) and see if they have displayed any older ammo boxes, etc. They aren't real old but their age might bring a small premium.
I got a SA GI 4" for my son and then proceeded to put a ton of money into it getting it to be like a Milspec. It ran great right out of the box but if you're thinking of "enhancements " get at least a Milspec and save yourself some aggravation and $$$$.
Well if you have to have a revolver, and it has to be a S&W (for me it would have to be) you could go with some of the newer models or a model 36/60. The bad thing about the J frames is the 5 shot, but that might not be so bad after all.
I bought a 6" 629 in 1986 and shot the heck out of it but never could really get it to shoot to where I wanted (with an Aimpoint, it was dead on but I couldn't get used to the sights). So I traded it off and always regretted it. I finally found another (last year) and I love it. Maybe it's...
I'm not sure people are arming themselves for a civil war as perhaps they're readying themselves for an economic melt down. I have quite a bit of ammo and reloading supplies but I am buying more if I can find it at a decent price.
Years ago I used Elmer Keith's load of 22.0 grns of 2400 under a 240 PB, it was a bear. I believe conventional wisdom has that load at 20.0 grns now. It still ought to be pretty stout. Take a look at this place http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=44314&highlight=mag+loads+2400...
I would buy an up to date reloading manual (or 2 or 3), then read it end to end. Reloading isn't rocket science but it is dangerous. Sorry, I'm sure you understand it's dangerous, but it's also addicting, :) I did a search and found this book at Midway and others The ABC's of Reloading. As...
The 06 has a decent kick to it but nothing you can't get used to. As far as the scope goes, for me the scope is set so that as soon as I raise the rifle to my shoulder, the scope is clear (no parallax). That is far enough back that recoil doesn’t put it too close to my face. If you tend to...
A friend and I were discussing the VT shooting at lunch yesterday and he said that he had read somewhere that the guy (Cho) had practiced shooting at targets lying on the ground. The conversation went on to me saying that he killed 32 people with what 3 handguns(?) but if there had been 3...
From where I'm sitting after reading the OP's story, I'm thinking the employee is a Maroon. If the guy would have wanted his opinion on open carry he would have asked for it. The whole thing bothered him in a way that it wasn't a real big deal but he wanted to vent a little to like minded...
Here is some info on the Winchester Model 88

Here is some for the Remington Model 12...
I had a 99 vintage P14 that was very reliable and the action was as smooth as a hot knife through butter. But when I wanted to "personalize" it for me I found the proprietary parts made it more expensive than I really wanted. It was comforting to have 15 rounds at one time but those same 15...
There are lots of things that can happen in a persons lifetime and falling on your gun while carrying SOB is one of them I suppose. Hell, you could get killed by a sea ray while riding in the front of your family's boat too. I carry IWB at 5:00 and find it to be very comfortable for me. I...
The guy was speeding, on a 2 lane farm road, passing on a double yellow line all of this in (I presume) a heavy fog. That idiot was not only endangering himself but also the OP and perhaps whomever is coming the other way in that fog. He didn't know what was ahead in the fog and didn't care...
Years ago I loaded 30/06 on a Lee Turret press using the Lee powder measure. I used IMR and Hodgdon 4350 and it worked just fine. That is about all I can tell you as I sold it off a long time ago. If you are going for match grade ammo, you might want a powder trickler also.
I've got a Remington 870 express in .410 and it's a great gun, but expensive to shoot compared to a 20 or 12. I also would go with a 20 and low brass shells. Get her a recoil shield and I'd bet she would be fine.
That's cool that your "Sarge" would give that to you. It's even "cooler" what you guys are doing. I would clean the gunk out and put it up or in a case with pictures of your "Band of Brothers" so you could enjoy it years to come. You surely could find another "authentic" looking one that you...
