Winchester 94 30/30 vs Yugo SKS...

I guess I offer a couple other views. First off, I would jump at the chance to get the 30-30. I started with one, have hunted with one for many years, and am very very comfortable with using one for deer out to 175 yards. Ammunition is slightly more expensive, but it is also very very...

7.62x39mm HPs or soft points- do any expand?

I tried the Corbon in my Saiga and did not see good accuracy at all. I had 8 inch groups at 25 yards. Would probably work great with rifling that was .30 instead of .311.

    Kobra reticles and range compensation

I know what you mean, and in reality find that it's actually to your advantage. The Tbar and Chevron are more for the close range issues as they tend to be very quick to pick up. The dot I feel is more for the longer distance. I remember looking into this a bit a couple months ago, and if I...

    Wisconsin roadkill

Really depends on what part of the state one is in. Really large parcels of 80 acres and more can sell anywheres from $1000-3000 an acre estimated. 40's tend to run $2000-3000 an acre, even for swampland. These costs will really vary, but that's a rough estimate and average. I've seen some...

AK for 3-gun matches (considering Arsenal USA AKM, Mojo Sights, etc.)

Yup you're right. Arsenal INC is about as close to the actual Bulgarian factory builds as you can get. I always get the two twisted around when I need to look something up on them..Thanks.

AK for 3-gun matches (considering Arsenal USA AKM, Mojo Sights, etc.)

One other thing to consider is to make sure you get an AK with the rail on the side so that you can mount optics. Not all of them come with it, although most can have it installed. Side-folders also can use the side-rail, but underfolders will be unable to use an optic.

AK for 3-gun matches (considering Arsenal USA AKM, Mojo Sights, etc.)

ArsenalUSA does not make stamped versions yet...they will start making them shortly according to a press release they had just a month or two ago however. They built their reputation with high quality milled versions. I am waiting for them to produce the stamped as well, as are many many other...

    Wisconsin roadkill

Another issue in WI is that those that do hunt get all these little 40 acre plots, and when it comes time to hunt they plop themselves down in their 40 and sit. And sit. And sit. The deer aren't moved around, and people don't cooperate with neighbors with drives for the reason that they don't...

    Officer Needs Assistance

Lever actions are fine for more rural outdoor scenarios. Where they don't work well is in tight close quarters where the angle of the grip and the need to cycle the lever makes it so that it is difficult for weapon retention as well as tough to use in entry type scenarios. The fact that they are...

    Officer Needs Assistance

There is some really good advice here, and some advice that needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Sully and others speak very well, and it would be in your departments best interests to try and go that angle at all costs. Shotguns in the urban environment have the issue of liability with the...

Carbine defn., 223 vs 30, IDPA & survival

I agree with the statement to get a decent AK to start. Ammunition for the AK rifles in 7.62x39 is very inexpensive, a good beginners rifle interms of simplicity and reliability, accuracy will be good for what you want to use it for (Some rifles have accuracy on par with the AR's depending on...

On-Duty use of force. When do you draw?

Ok, as a FT Deputy, my answer would be to first ask the jursidiction's DA and Sheriff, as its their opinions you're going to be basically working under. In my opinion, the van coming back for the third time would have been the last straw so to speak and I would have detained at that point so...

    UMP vs. MP-5

I've fired both and prefer the MP5. The safety selector was better on the UMP, but the sights, balance, recoil, takedown procedures, were all better ont he MP5. The MP I'm issued is fairly accurate and the recoil seemed to be more smooth into the shoulder while the UMP was chuggish like an M60...

Is anyone aware of a Ukrainian AK variant?

Igor over on AK.net lives in MN and is Ukranian. He posted a thread showing a pic of the AK converted into a bullpup in 5.45 if I recall... Said it would cost around $50 euro's per rifle to convert.

    Ak Usa Ak 104

I do have one of his AK104's. I think it cost $780 as previously mentioned (Course my wife won't know that!). The price is worth it with the original Bulgarian front sight blocks installed. Accuracy is very good, and in my opinion the location of the sights and with the front sight moved back...

AK-47 five and ten round magazines

They're Chinese magazines. You can tell by the lack of a rib on the back. I've got one or two of these and they work fine. I also like to keep some 10 rounders around just for the versatility of how slim it makes them. My preference for this is ideally the Saiga 10-rd magazine that was modified...

    Any AK fans here?

http://www.cqbsolutions.com/slings.htm This is a 3-point sling that runs about $25 from Lightfighter.com. They aren't hard to make if it's too much money, but I like the quality of the webbing. I wish it was a little wider, but it works exceptionally well and has all the versatility to be a...

    Any AK fans here?

I do a lot of work with an MP5 and CAR15 for work, but I come to the AK104 for my personal stuff. It's not as light or balanced as the other two, but it sure seems to hit nice, and is extremely reliable for everything I want it for. I own an SAR3 I'm going to modify to a AK102 replica, and have...
