Series 70 Mk IV Gold Cup National Match. It was bought new by me after my stint in the Phillipines. I have shot 50,000 + rounds through it and never had a failure I couldn't handle in the field right there. Anyone who thinks a .45 Colt is "unreliable" should take the time to learn how to use one.

I think that MG that was used by that Marine on Iwo was taken from a Navy bomber and they had done a field conversion on it. Something like sights from a BAR, stock from an M1 that kind of thing. The big difference was the cyclic rate of fire, which was something like 1200 rpm.

To the OP; How about a Winchester Model 94 or Marlin 336? In 30.30 or .35? About the best "knock around" mediun caliber rifles I know of. Just my opinion.

I daily carry a Combat Commander in an El Paso Saddlery Yaqui Slide. I find it very comfortable, but it does require a cover shirt.

Two of the ranges I used to shoot at were combination ranges ( trap and skeet). If you shot past your markers you would be in line of sight to the next ranges trap house. If someone was loading the trap, it could be bad. Try and stay inside the markers, a lost bird is better than the other.
