What works good for you in 40 cal.

I like the big banger's, try 6.7 grains of Longshot with a Berry's 180 grain bullet. These definitely let you know you're shooting a 40 cal, lol.

9mm load, getting the willies here,

I'm using 5.7 grains of Unique behind a 115 grain Xtreme plated bullet and it shoots great. I just ordered another thousand 124 grain Berry's bullets and I'm planning on using 5.3 grains with those. I've also got some Universal to try out, probably go with 4.6 grains behind the 124.

    What's your Favorite Pistol Caliber?

Before I bought my Ruger SR9-C, I loved shooting my XD-40, thought it was great. Since I've owned the SR9-C, the 9mm is absolutely my favorite cartridge, the gun is a total joy to shoot and very accurate. 9mm reloads at $6/box are nice too. I still shoot the XD-40, but not nearly as...

    "shorter" bbl .40 s&w load

I've been using Unique in my 40 S&W loads as my primary powder. Although I have tried Universal, Longshot, and Blue Dot, they all work fine too. Blue dot is the most fun, 9 grains behind a 165 grain Ranier is a real thumper with a big blast.....its fun! I think once my Unique is all used...

How much $ do you spend in one trip to the range? (ammo)

I'll typcially shoot 50 rounds out of my 9mm and 50 rounds out of my 40 S&W on a range outing. That comes out to be about $12-$13/week, shooting reloads. My Mini-14 with reloads will cost me about $9/40 rounds and my .308 will run me about $18/40 rounds. I very rarely shoot more than 40...

What do you think of Sellier & Bellot ammo

I've fired quite a bit of S&B 9mm, never had any problems with it. Its priced great, so I'll continue to use it.

Ammo Cost = Gun Cost, How long?

Shooting my 9mm reloads out of my SR9-C, at 12 cents/round......that's 4000 rounds. I've put about 1000 through it in the 1.5 years I've had it.

    9mm powder

Unique works great in 9mm and I've also found Longshot works good in heavier bullets, 124 grain and up.

Which powder for 9mm and 45acp?

I'd go with Unique or Universal for both. I load Unique in 9mm and 40 S&W and its always worked great.

    Good powders for the .223?

H-4895 is my go-to powder in .223. 50 grain to 69 grain bullets.

    favorite calibers

Handguns: 22LR 9mm 40 S&W Rifle: .223 .308 7.62x39 I really enjoy shooting my 9mm and 40 S&W and I can plink away with the .22. My SKS is an awesome range blaster and cheap to shoot, the mini-14 is a hoot and its really fun punching .75" groups with my .308.

.308 or .30-06, and which bullet weight?

For general hunting with the .308, up to Elk size game, I think a bonded 165 grain bullet would be ideal. For deer, the plain old Remington Core-Lokt 150 grain is fine. For punching paper out to 300 yards, I use Nosler custom comp 168 HPBT's.

At least as many as any AR-15, the mini 14 is a very rugged and durable design.

New Mini 14 Tactical 100 rounds fired...

I have a Mini-14 ranch that I've owned since 2009. Its a great carbine and will produce 1.5" groups with my handload's and premium bullets. I've got a Burris FFII 3-9x40 on mine and I love it. Its a total hoot to shoot.

    9mm carry

Since I own an SR9-C and its awesome, I'd vote for that. The SR40-C would probably be a good shooter too.

    Which .223 Brass?

I use Remington, in my .308 and .223 exclusively. Federal is soft and heavy, with less capacity. I'm very pleased with my Remington brass, I can get 1000 pieces of once fired for $100. PMC isn't bad either, I'm currently shooting some of that factory ammo so I can load the brass.

    What % gain from +p to +p+

I've shot some Federal 9PBLE +p+ 115 grain loads in my SR9-C. They weren't bad at all. I don't think Federal would manufacture ammo that would destroy handguns, so I'm not worried about using it. Plus Ruger = built like a tank.

    Buy or Reload?

I got into reloading back in 2005, after researching how much it could save me in cost/round. I have a couple thousand 40 S&W rounds loaded that cost me about 11 cents/piece with 2005 component cost's. With today's bullet cost, it would be about 15 cents/round. Compare that to 35...
