    Shield 9 range report.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked my Shield 9mm. It was nice straight out of the box, didn't REALLY need an Apex Duty/Carry trigger, but that's nice too. I bought seven extra 8 rd mags, all of which function as flawlessly as the original 7 & 8 rounders. Now I see some sales of mags...

    THR Remington 1858 Club

Wayne-O KBBailey is right! That's a spectacular loading stand. But I have to wonder about the box/case behind it in the picture. Looks like another nice bit of gear. What is that? And is there a pic of it we could see? Don in Ohio

    THR Remington 1858 Club

Just got done doing some measuring on the new Pietta. Chambers are .446 and the bore slugs out at .453! I think that my future will include the purchase of a .453 chucking reamer and a new round ball mold in .457 Don in Ohio

    THR Remington 1858 Club

Found this place last week and waited until today when the Big Brown Truck dropped off my newest Remmie. On the top is the new one. A 5.5 inch Pietta from Cabelas, locks up tight with good timing, muzzle crown is very slightly off. It's still oozing the factory oil until I can do a...

How many magazines do you like to have for a given gun? Why?

A minimum of 3, a primary and 2 spares. And more than that is better. At least a dozen for the AR, 6 for the P35, etc. It's hard to have too many. Don in Ohio

    Restrictions in Ohio?

NFA registered weapons are supposed to be exempt from the 31 round law. There is (or just was) a case where an owner of a registered SBR was charged with a violation of this law. Haven't heard the outcome yet. Non NFA weopons are restricted to <31 rounds by state law. Don in Ohio

    Pachyderm in the petunias

I am old enough to remember reading the original article where this is mentioned, sometime in the sixties, maybe early seventies.. I think it was on a hunting trip though, the OConnors didn't live in Africa or India. And I think It was thier guide who exclaimed "Good Lord Eleanor, you brained...

Well I guess that means that they didn't lock me out of the site! Has to be something unexpected or they'd have the page up with the "come back later" message. Don in Ohio

    Can you say, "overkill?"

In a situation like this, rule 37 applies. #37 There is no overkill, there is only "Open fire" and "I need to reload" Plus the taxpayers won't have to pay for housing and feeding that slimebag. Everbody wins! (The slimebag doesn't count) Don in Ohio

    machining your own lower

If I understand things correctly, Being as you're in California, the answer is "no" In "Most" other states you'd be good to go.You can build anything you could legally buy over the counter of the local gun store. There is no limit to the number of guns you may build. You can not make a...

    Colt Navy(very rusty)

One of my co-workers has an original '51 Navy that was found in his just puchased house. He wants to know if there is any value left in it. It is in very sad shape. The backstrap is missing, the hammer spur is broken off, the barrel and cylinder are deeply pitted and the seating lever is...

Measuring the cylinder throat of a revolver

If you're going to try this, use a jacketed bullet. I seem to recall most of mine coming in boxes that list the nominal diameter. If the slug doesn't drop thru, you can reasonable assume that the throat is too tight. If you need to be more precise(recommended) find someone with an adjustable...

    Which BP revolver

I have a pair of the Roger and Spencer guns and they are great guns. I replaced the front sights with dovetailed units intended for Remington 1858s which allowed me to adjust the elevation to a 25 yd point of aim. They have really stout hammer springs, much heavier than any Colt or Remmy I've...

Do you still have your first gun?

Winchester Model 47 .22 single shot. It came with a Weaver B4 scope which has long since gone down the road. The rifle now wears a decent off brand 1 inch scope and sits in the safe in a place of honor. Oh yeah, the year was 1961. Yeah, I'm an old fart.:) Don in Ohio

Question About Gun Paperwork - Wrong Apt. # and Moving

It would be easier to give an applicable answer if we had some inkling of where you are. Federal paperwork will probable never be scrutinized to that extent, some states will get in a tizzy over the same information. Don in Ohio

    Oh, the irony!

Oleg, We keep telling the anti faction that guns don't "make" people criminals, In the same way, gun laws obviously don't "make" people buy guns. Maybe "encourage" would be better? Whadda think? Don in Ohio
