    Safes and Dehumidifying Them

You guys are pretty smart. I called a safe store and got the full scoop. It's like you said. The main thing is to keep the temperature in the safe up a little so that warm air keeps the water in the air and not sticking to any metal. There need not be any hole in the top of the safe. The lady I...

    Safes and Dehumidifying Them

Maybe I'll just start by stating how I'm thinking about this. I've had a gun safe for years. It has a foot long Golden Rod in it. My safe is medium-sized and has a hole on the top. I see the air in the safe moving upward from the dehumidifier at the bottom and venting through the hole at the...

Harm to guns from some safes?

Well, I'm a little slow here but thanks for everyone's responses. These discussions really help.

Harm to guns from some safes?

I am looking for a safe for my son. I guess there is some concern about harm to firearms from the chemicals used in making the shelves, etc. Like the internal environment, at least with a brand new safe, could be a problem. Can anyone confirm this? And if it's true, what to do about it. Do you...

    A Question About Plated Bullets

I really appreciate all this input. I may just buy a taper resizing die for these. In the last bullet shortage, I found plated bullets to be available while all the lead and jacketed bullets were long gone. If it's that way in this shortage, I will certainly use them. Again, thanks, everybody.

    A Question About Plated Bullets

These are not jacketed, but plated. I don't know much about them, but I found some in my supplies. They look jacketed but no crimping groove. With the lack of regular lead bullets I am tempted to try these. I wonder if they need a special die like maybe a taper die because I don't think a...

    9mm deer load

I would choose to use any 9mm on deer like I would choose oatmeal over a prime rib dinner. If that's all you got and it's legal in your state, I guess you use it, but if I had choice in the matter, I would use something recognized as a decent deer cartridge instead of that pistol cartridge.

    H&R Trapdoor

I have wanted one of these for about 50 years but somehow missed getting one. I wouldn't care who made it as long as it safely went bang! I consider you to be a lucky man.

Opinions on 7.62 x 39 Hollow Points Effectiveness on Game

Well, this only happened twice. I thought the first time was a fluke and it did about 4 in a row. Then the next time, I only loaded a couple rounds and they went quick too and it spooked me and I was done with that! Later I read that this can happen with civilian rounds and the SKS free-floating...

Opinions on 7.62 x 39 Hollow Points Effectiveness on Game

I am getting to know my SKS better. I have just plinked with it. I find the TulAmmo from Russia is offered in hollow point bullets (122 grain). I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it for any hunting applications. I must admit I am somewhat doubtful about how great they may be, but...

Safety Seal on Powder Not There

I thank everybody for responding. I don't know for sure how I'll play this, but your responses make me feel better about the whole thing. I know that from now on, I am going to check for the safety seal before I buy. As they used to say: "Caveat emptor."

Safety Seal on Powder Not There

I recently bought two cans of IMR 4064 at Sportsman's Warehouse in Medford, Oregon. I felt real lucky because that is one of my favorite powders. It was weird because the shelves were pretty empty but there sat two cans of great powder. I went to reload the other day and on opening the cans, I...

Is There Room for a Little Error on Max Case Length?

Well, I sure appreciate all the info. Yes, I was talking specifically about the case length, not OAL. Also, I was asking about both handgun and rifle. Good info. I really like this forum and the good people in it. Thanks.

Is There Room for a Little Error on Max Case Length?

I know, don't go over. But sometimes when I'm trimming cases, I find one that is long enough to make me think it was too long when I fired that particular round. I know it's a pressure issue, but I also wondered if there was a little room for error or fudging allowed. Now, I hate to use that...

    Got a screw loose

Thanks all. I am getting back a lot later, LOL. Nice info!

    Got a screw loose

This must have been gone over a million times, and I've solved the problem in different ways in the past, but that was long ago. I'd just like to get some new opinions on how to keep a screw from loosening in the firearm. In the past, there was something called Locktite (I think) but it really...

Well, I sure appreciate all the input. Thanks guys!

Rifle bullet velocity and expansion/non expansion

I have sometimes wondered at what point that bullet out of your favorite high powered rifle slows down so much that it will no longer reliably expand in game. I am talking about a regular deer hunting bullet by Hornady or Sierra or Speer coming out of let's say a .308 Winchester rifle. At what...

Cylinder Bolt Issue on 1858 Remington

OK Finally Figgered It Out Well, even more info given to me now. Even got a comment from the gunsmith "Goon" guy himself. Sweet. So yeah, I think since I have gotten years use out of the Pietta, since it is brass framed, since I only paid $99.00 for it in the first place, and since I have a...

Cylinder Bolt Issue on 1858 Remington

Thanks Again The gun is clean as a whistle, inside and out. I will proceed with the suggestions and I am sure I will be shooting it again at some point. Thanks, Glen
