What are mosins going for nowadays?

When are we going to stop calling the dang receivers "hex" when they ain't?? Three milled shelves on top and rounded underneath.

    "40 is a dead caliber"

Folks thought the 10mm was dead when Colt discontinued the Delta Elite...Dornus & Dixon (Google it!) went belly up, etc. Glock was smart, saw the benefits and was the leader of the revival. Want a dead caliber, look up .41 AE (Google it, too)...except I just bought a gun in .41 AE (NIB...

    Question about 40S&W and 10mm

A lot of 'smart' people and 'experts' have advised against it. I suppose I agree with them to a point. Still, just to see what would happen, I have entered numerous IDPA competitions and such with my Glock 20, and fired .40 SW for the whole thing, just to see what would happen. Still haven't...

    Favorite Elk Caliber?

I use a .308 Win, and killed a lot of elk with it. Truly, you just don't need anything more.

Almost blew my Rifle up yesterday

My Colt M4 has a bunch of FDE furniture on it, so only FDE mags are loaded with 5.56. All my black mags are .300 BO only, as my build is all black. Scary. Glad you are OK

In the market for an AK

I can't speak to a lot of the various types, save mine. I bought a Norinco a few years back that I have been very happy with, an NHM-91. I don't see them much, but Norinco AKs, and SKSs coming through my local store all seem to be well built specimens. With your budget, I'd look to buy a good...

    Ruger Mini-14 or Mini Thirty?

I own both. For your purposes the .300 blackout may be a better choice for the reasons 'badkarma' states. I do love my Mini-30 due to the larger caliber. There is some decent deer ammo out there. Hornady makes some great factory loads for the thirty. I hand-load, so that presents me some...

Does anyone prefer a single stage press

I had a progressive for a while and decided it wasn't worth all the trouble, so I went back to single stage. I have two presses set up side buy side so if I need a little more volume I can charge primed brass and seat the bullet without changing dies. That's as complicated as I get now. It's...

What AR15 brands should be avoided?

Granted, this is a sample size of one...however, before I knew squat about ARs, I bought a DPMS right before BHO was elected. It was fine for a couple years until I started shooting more and more. After a rather intense outdoor range session (800 rounds or so as I recall), I was cleaning the...

Lightweight ar for 900 or less.

Jackal's got it right. Gotta build it. I recently built a similar rifle with BCM light weight rails for about the same cost. Used a blem lower I paid 50$ for, but other than that, the costs are spot on.

Small base dies for once-fired mil brass

Don't need a SB die in a military type semi. Their chambers are roomy. SB dies meant for tight match chambers in .223 bolts. Those burrs, and this forum saved you $50. Go buy ammo!

    Nosler .223 80 grains in AR15???

I've loaded a bunch of these for my Colt and they fed and fired without issues.

    Ideal whitetail projectile and velocity

Whatever elk load is in my rifle is my ideal deer load (though they are mulies.) This last year is was a 180r Winchester Partition Gold at about 2550fps at the muzzle from my .308. Two nice deer and an elk fell from this loading.

    PSA levels of quality

I have a PSA upper in 300 AAC and it has been totally fine...no hesitation to buying another. It's running a BCM carrier and Colt bolt. There are a lot of ways to spend more money on one, or a lower, but I think you start paying a lot for brand names - not that I am immune to that, as I fondle...

    223 and CFE

In my experiences with it, CFE 223 seems to be a better .308 powder than .223 powder, ironically.

    NICS Delay.

If you are getting put on delays, read and understand this please!! A UPIN 'May' help you get out of the 'delay' bin... if you will. I work for a large retailer of firearms, and spend many hours dealing with gun purchases, and have had many conversations with ATF agents and NICS employees...

What are the farthest and closet shots kill shot made

My farthest shot was on an elk in Idaho. 603 yards with a .308. Load was 43gr of 748 under a 180r WW Failsafe bullet, Nikon Monarch Gold scope 2.5-10 x 50mm, Weatherby Vanguard rifle: It's the same, and only rifle I've ever hunted with, and I've killed a lot of game with it. Got lots of...

    Wet vs. dry case cleaning.

I clean my reloads AFTER they are loaded. This way, all the lube is tumbled off the rounds. They are shiny and slick. I'm not comfortable dropping them in wet solution so I use the older method of a vibratory unit with walnut or corn cob...probably not such a hot idea doing this in liquids...

Where have all the Mosin Nagants gone?

I bought mine on a whim for 99$ from Cabela's, a nice 1927 "hex", which is BS, because there are three flat cuts on the upper (visual part ) of the receiver and under the flat cuts is round. Not a 'hex' at all, but a tri-cut....have you taken your 'hex' ALL THE WAY apart???? They just don't...

Barnes TSX 55 gr or 70 gr in AR

I'd go with the 70gr. With such a small bullet, go with penetration. When I hunt in Idaho I use my elk load on deer, kills 'em dead. These options have a degree of similarity. Go with heavy, and penetration. Put two holes in them (with one shot) and put them down.
