What was your first marksmanship badge of honor? .....

Mine was similar, but with a pellet rifle and I was camped out on my grandma’s backyard bird feeder. Grandpa thought it was pretty funny. He had told me I could only shoot black birds and blue jays. Well, they all looked kinda dark and a blue bird is easily confused with a blue jay when you are...

Im looking to do a pig hunt this spring

The few I’ve tried to eat made the whole house smell just like a wild pig. Sausage, backstraps, bbq, it didn’t matter. The size of the pig didn’t matter. I eat a good bit of venison, but wild pork is a hard pass from me. I’ve got buddies who love it, but I just can’t get on board.

This should get your blood boiling...

It’s not an opinion. It’s a fact. Market hunting nearly killed it. Trophy hunting brought it back. Subsistence hunting just well…subsisted…

This should get your blood boiling...

“Trophy hunting” saved the tradition of hunting in North America. Please do a little research before continuing to prove your sig line ironic…

Im looking to do a pig hunt this spring

Go shoot pigs for fun in Texas, but buy your sausage from the grocery store. I’ll starve before I eat another wild pig.

    21” barrel 25-06

It’s 100% a Bubba job and I’ve already said that I’m not keeping it. I took it out to shoot it at the dealer’s request. I think he’s in it at around $650 and I don’t think he’ll get his money back out of it. It did shoot well enough that if it was closer to $500, I’d buy it and have the barrel...

    21” barrel 25-06

In his defense, he didn’t notice the barrel when he took it in on trade. $750 if the barrel was original would be a decent price around here. M77s are steadily going up in price since Ruger has put so much emphasis on Americans. I gave $1300 for my last new M77 Hawkeye.

    21” barrel 25-06

Used M77s in good condition are selling for $900+ in my neck of the woods and the dealer didn’t realize the barrel had been cut until I pointed it out. I’m willing to bet he still gets $600 out of it. Also, that does not explain how I’m losing money on the rifle…I literally cannot lose money on...

    21” barrel 25-06

Took the rifle out this morning and fired three 3 shot groups with the three types of ammo I had on-hand. Seeing as how I’ve already decided I’m not keeping it, I didn’t see the need to burn a ton of ammo that I didn’t pay for. The Hornady Superformance stuff shows some promise for sure. It’s...

Please explain how I am losing money by leaving it as is.

    21” barrel 25-06

Asking price is $750 and that’s not bad for an M77 in my neck of the woods if it’s in good shape. It’s more than I want to put into this rifle though. I’m gonna go shoot it for him in the morning and take it back to him. I offered to bring it back today, but he wants to know if it’s a shooter.

    21” barrel 25-06

Na. I’ll take back to him and leave it on the shelf before I put that kind of money into it.

    21” barrel 25-06

Meh…35 Whelen doesn’t do anything for me. Part of the appeal is the chambering.

    21” barrel 25-06

Forgot to mention in my previous post that my biggest concern is the complete lack of a crown. Not sure who cut the barrel off, but it’s cut flat with zero crown. Another reason I’m thinking about having it threaded is so that I could have the crown done at the same time. Just have to be in it a...

    21” barrel 25-06

Anybody here shooting a shorter barreled 25-06? I know that the 25-06 really needs a 24”+ barrel to reach it’s velocity potential, but my LGS called this morning and told me to come by and take a look at something they got on trade. It’s a 1978 built Ruger M77 with a varmint weight barrel...

    Silencers - Why?

I’ve literally never seen an animal that did NOT react to gunfire. Even on low pressure, private land, I have watched deer change behavior patterns based on a single gunshot in an area. I’ve seen multiple examples of pigs being shot suppressed and unsuppressed and there is a noticeable difference.

    Silencers - Why?

Na. Ours have played the game too often. They get shot at and they roll out. The good news is that I can usually go a couple fields over and find them again, or find a different sounder, but even shooting them from 400 yards, they usually roll out and stay out of that field for the remainder of...

    Silencers - Why?

Your pigs must be different from mine. Mine scatter on the first shot and sometimes they run straight to me. Sometimes they run a few feet and mill around for a second opportunity, but mostly they make a beeline for the deepest cover as soon as I shoot. I’ve never seen or heard of pigs standing...
