    243 or 6mm

x2 Art, Heeler and Gertrude. :) Believing in common-knowledge or group-think isn't for individuals (that can do their own thinking) it's only for followers and leaders. Being an individual I want to know what that thinking is but after that I'll take it from there, thank you. ;) And in the...

    243 or 6mm

Since I'm working on a friend's 600 Remington in 6mm... thought I'd mention a couple things I haven't read in the few threads I've read. :) First of course is the fact that the 600 action is definitely a short-action and it's a factory made 6mm Remington so the 6mm at least -was-...

How do you load your HD/SD shotgun?

Hmmm... No positive responses so far. :) Like... "I see where you're coming from, but..." I should've known better than to have posted the first post let alone the second! Sorry, I'll shut the **** up now. :) Alvin in AZ (post #74, mostly knife stuff, first political stuff)

How do you load your HD/SD shotgun?

Hi guys, I'm new here and I might not fit into the "culture" that's established here. :( First, who are your fellow Americans? :) The same ones that are comforted to see your fingernail clippers taken away from you before you board a plane with them. :) They wouldn't get on any of the...

How do you load your HD/SD shotgun?

Hmmm... Wouldn't you want it loaded with your typical hunting loads so it wouldn't look quite so premeditated to the grand jury, that you were wanting to actually kill somebody? :/ Seems to me only the police can get away with that. :/ And while I'm at it... Do you really want -any- jury...

    Tighten an old slip joint

Hi Greg :) Prem, here's a slip joint... http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/knife-halves.jpg That's opposite sides of the same pen knife where I cut it in half to work on it again. Are scanners cool for showing stuff like that or what? :)...

    my oldest knife

    > Hey, hey. We're still waiting for those pics of the flint knife!! - Pax Jordana Use a scanner! :) Easy as pie to show both sides even. :) My "oldest knife" may not really be a knife at all according to the flint-knapping teacher ...and his old-side-kick that showed up to join the class. :)...

    Screw shortening tips?

    > Usually when you get the screw ground down, you can round the end a bit > with a small file to remove the burrs and let the screw thread in OK. I got a -cheater- for fresh cut screws and bolts of any size. :) It's a Norton fine grit high-density deburring wheel mounted on a long shaft...

    Hey All, Opinions Please?(pics..dial-up beware)

No jigs! :) Just careful work and it's harder to do than it looks like too. :) There's been several times I was "checkering" and others wanted to "give it a try" and then they stopped in the middle and apologised for the mess they made. :) Miko, you're doing good! :) Your checkering...

    Making a firing pin

Mete! :) Oh yeah about the tempering time... I've never found any scientific information speaking to tougness or hardness figures for quick'n'dirty "blacksmith" temper drawing. All my information (like you spoke of) is from ASM etc and is always about one hour draws or two-one hour...

    Making a firing pin

Mete. Yeah but. :) Time at temperature doesn't count because by the time they get done fiddling around with that dangged magnet, it'll be ready, see? ;) It's a practice vs theory kind of thing. ;) Depending one the heat treating setup, an extra 1 to 2 minutes heating time could bring it...

    Making a firing pin

When heat treating something like O1 or W1 drill rod, the time at-temperature doesn't count for anything as long as it's all-the-way nonmagnetic in the heated area, it's ready to quench. I call that the "magnet method". I don't use that method for my knife blades or knife springs, I use what...

    My first reloads..NEED HELP!!

If your brass looks like the picture, then the answer is in the second post (by P95). :) You're shoving the brass into the crimping die too far. BTDT ;) The answer for crimping is the Lee Factory crimp die. Hadn't BTnorDT yet. :) Should tho since it's a 30-30 that I'm working with. :/...

The Best Platform for Handloading? 45 Colt?

Yeah, TT and fast powder like W231 is a little cheaper too since you use less of it. :) I've got a Little Dandy rotor ground-out and polished-up that does a real good job of dumping 8.3grs of old Hercules Unique and 8.8grs of 800X. 45 Colt and 250gr lead bullets with 5+1/2" barreled SAA...

    9 MM Pet Loads

Italian made Beretta 92 shoots those old Remington 115gr HPs so much better than anything else it ain't funny? ;) 7.00gr W540/HS6 ...yeah double zero :) Ground-out and polished-up LittleDandy rotor can do that. :) 5.05gr of W231 (same story) WSP primer's and sort my brass by brand...

The Best Platform for Handloading? 45 Colt?

I suggest for 45 Colt to not-buy an RCBS or Hornady or Lyman shell holder but to instead buy a #11 Lee shell holder. I'm an RCBS fan but they dropped the ball on the 45 Colt shell holder. :/ The Lee #11 is the only one that takes advantage of the groove just above the rim. BTDT :)...

Is there any other bead-removers here?

I like a shotgun without a bead, even to the point of filing them off flat or sometimes replacing them with a threaed plug. Anybody else? :) Never said I wasn't crazy. :/ Alvin in AZ

    stones - india and Arkansas

You can do any of the above to the Arkansas stones (SiO2) since they are so soft, but the India stones (AlOx) will need at least the hardness of an SiC abrasive to cut it. Alvin in AZ

    Going on a Hog Hunt...with a knife

45, point taken. :) Cool video too. :) As far as I'm concerned it makes my point. :) As a camper, in a tent, with a flashlight and a box full of food and a bear shows up... yeah that can be bad. ;) But a prepared guy or two and a pack of good dogs and that poor ol dumb bear ain't got a...
