Which revolver is better for reloading, 38 Special or 357 Magnum?

TLDR, .38spl brass is cheaper and more available. It will also last damn near forever, and never needs to be trimmed. No worries about mixing ammo types. Less powder used for the same FPS, so a tiny bit cheaper there as well.

Any experience with WMD Guns Barrels?

I have an 18" 1/8 twist, rifle-length gas system WMD melonited barrel. I'm getting 1.24-1.5 MOA groups with bulk PPU 75 grain bullets over BLC-(2). With a better shooter behind the trigger, I'm betting those would be sub-moa, since the vertical spacing is more like 0.6 moa groups. With a...

    keymod

Meh. Try a parallax tactical free float system. The older style without the keymod. Almost as light, rails where you need them, but not in the middle. Can use magpul rail sections in the middle if you feel you must...

    V Max for SD?

Depending on when it was manufactured, there may be two different types of 55gr 5.56mm TAP (See my test linked earlier in the thread). TAP FPD, V-Max, and Z-Max ammo are all essentially the same bullet. TAP Urban is a big ???. Remember, the FBI standard is taking into account lots of...

    duplicating 22lr

I wouldn't say it was EQUAL to the recoil and report of a .22 in a rifle of the same weight and barrel length, at least, not without the danger of bullets sticking in the barrel. The good news is that a .38/.357 rifle is going to be heavier, so the recoil might be about the same if she doesn't...

Another loss in court - will we lose the right to standard capacity magazines?

Um, Peruta, Richards? Both in the last month. My sheriff is currently experiencing apoplexy. Those of us in the PRK (**********) may be getting concealed carry permits within a year, possibly much sooner. I don't think that a mag ban has made it to the supremes since Heller and Macdonald. Now...

    V Max for SD?

Yes. Varmint bullets depend on velocity to create fragmentation/bullet breakup. At 100 yards, though, I don't think they are going to be penetrating steel, brick, or much hardwood. A good hard barrier (like a windshield) might cause fragmentation even at lower velocities. They certainly splatter...

    V Max for SD?

Um, a bunch of guys who used M855 in Mogadishu may have a bone to pick with your statement. Depends on the body type of the assailant, and shot placement is key. "anywhere on the human body" is kind of a ridiculous claim.

    V Max for SD?

^ This. I was concerned about this, so I ran a test: http://landryreloadingdocs.com/6.html

Drywall testing of Hornady varmint bullets, Pics included.

Interesting? Yes. WAY more work than my last test? Yes. WAY more expensive? Yes. Also, doesn't really make sense for me to test that particular combination, because my personal threat axis is going to have different materials downrange if I somehow miss my attacker. I can't test the exact...

Drywall testing of Hornady varmint bullets, Pics included.

No problem. Needed to answer a question for my own needs (and that of my shooting buddy), but figured we'd share. I was REALLY concerned when I heard that people were getting massive overpenetration with TAP ammo. I'm not sure if the problem was that they were spacing their 12 sheets of drywall...

Drywall testing of Hornady varmint bullets, Pics included.

It's all in the writeup, but if you can't go to the link... 5.56mm, Lake City 09, 55 grain, .224 bullet, 27.0 grains BLC-(2), Moderate Lee FCD crimp. Stag 16" 1/8 twist melonite barrel.

Drywall testing of Hornady varmint bullets, Pics included.

Pretty much. What we were specifically looking at, though were claims/testing that Hornady TAP ammo would penetrate 12+ layers of drywall. The research that remains to be done (or found) is if there is a difference between TAP-FPD (Civilian product) and TAP-Urban (LE product). I strongly...

Drywall testing of Hornady varmint bullets, Pics included.

This grew out of a post at calguns.net -- http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=670439 Decided to see what would happen with Hornady Z-max (V-max, TAP-FPD) ammo, after some controversy arose about penetration through drywall using an AR-type rifle. The short version is it...

    Looking for an ACOG

TA31-F or RCO. You will never look back. If you want it as a reflex sight, then TA-11 is also good, from what I hear, has longer eye relief, but less magnification and field of view. TA-31 (4x32) is probably the best for identifying targets, and has greatest magnification other than the 6x beast...

    Red dot on a .308

RCmodel, I respect your knowledge on many things, but in this case, you've made a mistake, I believe. Yes, the dot itself will appear to be 3x as big, but that's not 12MOA, since the target itself (i.e. the deer) will ALSO appear 3x as large. The magnifier will not change the size of the target...

    55gn Vmax powder charge?

That works fine in a bolt gun. Not always in a mag-fed AR.

Is there really a lead dust issue tumbling brass

^^^ This. Lead in the air from poorly loaded cast bullets fired on an indoor range with poor ventilation will elevate lead levels. If you have a gas check, load a less smoky powder/lube combo, etc...you can reduce the immediate exposure on firing. Shooting outdoors will make a HUGE...

Taking your long gun with you...

I've seen a custom truck camper shell that had a single long-gun safe built into it that would fit a longer-than-usual hawkins -type musket (It would fit a Mosin 91/30 with room to spare). Looking in from outside, you would never know it was there.
