Homicide call this week; .38 performance

I definitely feel the .38 Special is still special. I bet most people tip their nose up due to the military abandoning it when it proved a little less than effective against the Moro tribesmen in the Philippines. Well, IIRC, those guys were all hopped up on some sort of traditional...

Scallop/chamfer cylinder face on carry peice?

I am fondling my new 637, and slid my five rounds of 158gr semi jacketed hollowpoint rounds in one by one, and I noticed it's a bit tight sliding them in, and I thought, has/does anyone bother to scallop the cylinder to provide easier/quicker loading of a pocket/snub revolver?

    The 642 club

Thus the 'I picked up a 637' in my previous post. ;) It's the non-fraternal twin of the 642

    The 642 club

I joined the club this weekend, too, but only by association.. I picked up a 637 at Academy while I was in Houston visiting my buddy who just moved down there. Another buddy of ours was down there, so we decided to go to the range (before I bought the pistol). I had brought my Taurus Tracker...

    Taurus Tracker 22lr

Fumbler, Yeah, I'd want to see about smoothing things up. If I were to obtain lighter springs, I would keep the originals, and give the pistol a thorough testing at the range. (heck, that would be FUN!) I bet I can sweeten it up a little with the existing springs. I don't usually shoot...

    Taurus Tracker 22lr

I picked up a 4" Taurus Tracker in 22lr last Friday right before I went on a prairie dog hunt. Nice little pistol. Feels great in my hand, locks up pretty well on all but one or two chambers, but it's fine. It hits a bit high, so I have to go get it on paper soon. Ended up taking one rabbit...

    GP-100 added to the family

The KGP-141 (4" stainless GP100) was my first wheel gun. I have about 500 rounds through it (don't shoot as much as I should... I know... get to the range... I will...), and it's dead nuts reliable, and is pretty accurate if I do my part. I've shot 158gr and HOT125gr .357s and some mild 130gr...

Anything I should know before shooting .38 out of a .357?

The only gotcha about it is you need to be sure to clean the chambers in the cylinder well, or after shooting a bunch of .38s, it can get hard to chamber .357s. I have shot a few hundred .38s out of my GP100, and it works fine. I can't tell much difference in accuracy between softer .38s...

    New Pistol follow me home

Nice store, huh? I live about a mile from there. There's an Academy about another mile away that has a nice S&W 637 that I'm gonna try to pick up next month. :)

    The 642 club

Can I join the club if I end up getting a 637? I have a Colt Mustang that is just not reliable, and I've been thinking about a snubby for CCW (when I get off my butt and get my CHL, that is!), and the 637 is likely going to be the one. I likely won't carry it on my person much, as I can't...

    the frustration of 1911 ownership...

You mean there are other handguns besides the 1911??? j/k... I have a couple, but always keep a 1911 in the stable. It just comes down to the looks and feel. NOTHING comes close to how CLASSY the 1911 looks, and how NICE it feels in my hands. I do like my CZ75B.. it's only a hair...

The official: Post your customized 1911's thread

They make the Loaded in Parkerized now? Man, not being able to get on gun sights at work for about a year has put me out of touch!! Very nice looking there! I have a Milspec Parkerized, but I'm thinking about getting a stainless Milspec to trick out a little. Basically, I like the...

    How to load a flintlock?

I'll agree with the comments about charges. My .50 flinter shoots well with 50-60 grains, but starts to spread badly around 70. You'll get more velocity, more kick, but accuracy blows. As for the sprue up, it really DOES affect accuracy! I loaded a few with the sprue DOWN, just for...

Are the CMP Garands a good deal?

I got a Dane Winchester with VAR barrel in a trade with a friend. All of the metal finish. except the bolt, looks BRAND NEW. It was obviously reparked. I need to have the bolt (also a Win) reparked to match. The stock was pretty lousy. The buttstock was walnut, but was SO beat up, it was...

    Greek 9mm Ammo from Dillon

I got a case of Olympic 9mm a while back. Shot most of it through my CZ75 and a little through a Star BM. Every one went bang. Decently accurate. Clean rounds. Feed well. I'd definitely recommend.

    Garand Questions

Ok, ejecting at about 1 o'clock is perfectly normal. As for the jam, maybe the bolt short stroked, maybe the shot before it was a little weak and the spring accellerated the bolt forward too fast... maybe the cartridge was seated too far forward in the clip? Just few possibilities.

Broken Beretta Storm Out Of Box

well, cableman, you're the first I've heard that's had problems out of the box. You're the first I've heard that's had problems at all! (save for some mags that are fussy). I think you just got a bad unit. Remember, not 100% of a manufactured product makes it out the door absolutely...

    Are Bersa's any good?

I got a Bersa Thunder .380. Absolutely reliable, and pretty dang accurate, too. Simply put, it's the most bang for the buck. $200 bonez. Best gun money I ever spent.
