Have you looked at the Tang of the receiver to see it's manufacture date. It kinda looks as though this was an octagonal receiver that was rounded. The circular discoloration on the barrel end could be where the Czar Crest was removed. Just a thought.

Finally got achance to go to the range with my 642. Fired around seventy 158gr lswc, I use 9" paper plates as targets, fixed sights were high and a little to the right. Switched to the carry load of 158gr lswchp (+p), OUCH and still alittle high and to the right. I'll have to work on that...
