Split the difference if you want. Sharpen a little around the point for stabbing then sharpen another bit near the hilt to useful for cutting string, etc if the bayonet is ever close to hand for a small task.
You can try having it sharp in the most useful spots and hopefully not slash your...
I haven't been able to get to a range after moving last year, but I still dry fire practice with my GP100 when I can.
I have noticed my sights jerk consistently up and right during fast double action trigger presses for a very long time. I have slowed down the press and sped it up slowly...
For you second question, I have really liked a Burris fullfield II on my savage 30-06. You might want something classier on your pretty rifle but as jmr40 as suggests that should be the bottom end of your options.
Like many other people I have a Savage 110. Haven't been too the range in a while but even when shooting often would rather shoot my 30-06 and 22lr than get a different centerfire cartridge.
The big box store I visited had all their normal centerfire rifle calibers including milsurps. rimfire ammo was limited to shorts and 22 magnum. Pistol calibers were really out. Only cowboy loads of 38spc and 45 colt left.
I would be looking for a four inch group at 300 yards with a fixed rest, from any nicely finished bolt 7 or 300 magnum. A custom target competition gun should do noticeably better.
If you decided to sell what would u get next?
For safety, choosing a powder that fills the cartridge is good to prevent an overcharge accident is a good thing when possible. However, I don't usually do that in 38 spec because the case is so big compared to the powder for I got for practice loads. That shouldn't be an issue with most auto...
My one bolt rifle is a 30-06, but often I wished it had less recoil. My interest is mainly in practicing on paper. You should reconsider .243 win over a 30 cal option since you sound much more interested in practice than big game hunting. 223 is more economical for practice but handloading...
a few years ago I was considering a similar purchase and found a savage 110 on end of year clearance in 30-06. then later got a burris fullfield II 3x9 scope for it. Each shot is definitely an event shooting from sitting or sandbag supported position. For you 308 or 30-06 in any of the bolt...
I don't use HOS, but i did reload 38 spc brass about 3 times before I got a tumbler to clean it. No problems.
I don't know how smooth the primer feed is on that turret press as I only use a single stage. for me the RCBS hand priming tool is my most valued reloading tool, eliminates...
I have 125gr Remington factory loads ready to go beside mine now. But those will probably be replaced with another 125gr hollowpoint and 20gr of H110 in remington brass from another lot.
Any 125gr hollowpoint bullet from an established manufacturer loaded as hot as you can stand is the...
I am happy to hear that someone else is getting a 30/06 primarily for target/handloading fun. I have a savage and it is fun, but I expect that vanguard with a little more weight will be even better. It took me a while to get used to the recoil on it, then I shot another guy's T3 at the range...
I'll recommend the 243. Primarily for less recoil, but also for cost. The cost for average quality 243 ammo is usually equal to 308 with a small price break on the premium stuff. You won't find dirt cheap plinking ammo for 243, but that ammo is meant for fun with semi-autos. If you keep...
That is a neat idea. I have not heard of anyone else desiring this "cat-tail" thing, but I can imagine it being useful in certain situations.
Have often have other people enhanced their zoom rings this way?
I'll recommend the Savage Model 11. I have the long action version with synthetic stock. IMHO, It has two things going for it 1) the right weight and balance for a full power cartridge shooting from a sitting or kneeling position, 2) very simple and obvious controls design.
When I tried...
LA guy,
it sounds like you are doing exactly what i did three years ago. I got a MK II FV with a Mueller APV scope. It has been worth every penny and I still shoot it all the time. I had not used many scopes then but i read up on a bunch of scopes them and the Mueller APV seemed like the...
Aimpoint sights are awesome. I have no experience with other high end brands. Cheaper red dots are for fun and games, even half serious competitions probably merit spending more money. I don't think Aimpoints fail noticeably more often than irons sights break.
However, I am better at...
I have a savage mark II in a simpler configuration. I like it alot and would recommend it, but I don't care for the TRR-SR variation.
It definitely has more accuracy than a stock 10/22. With a box of 100rnd/$7 i can put 5 shots into 2 inches at 50 yards when i am steady on the sandbags...
