JShirley: "I owned a Cherokee Rose. It is huge, but seemed like a dedicated antipersonnel piece/weapon- IOW, it's not nearly as overbuilt as many of HI's other products, but is a fearsome weapon."
MY RESPONSE: You are saying that the Cherokee Rose is more...
What are your opinions of the Himalayan Imports Cherokee Rose? It's one of the biggest knives I've ever seen (20" overall).

I want a short sword as a display piece for my home, but also something I can pick up and fight a home invader off with if necessary. (I have a gun, but it's not always nearby). What would be a good self defense sword, and what length would be acceptable in an apartment with limited space?
I live in the Urban Jungle and I'm thinking of either buying a shotgun or a handgun for home protection. Is a shotgun a lot more deadly then say... a 38 or 357 Mag. revolver? I have to take into account that I don't want to shoot my neighbors through the walls or the baby sleeping on the other...

Response to SoCalShooter:
I sent you an email of a picture that I took of my Ontario Midnight Bagwell Bowie - I can't figure out how to post a picture here.
I read that in Tijuana Mexico there have been numerous allegations of Police Officers working illegally with Drugs Cartels, so the police force had their guns taken from them and they were issued slingshots with ball bearings. Can a slingshot replace a gun for policework? Mexico is our border...
K-bar
I made an impulse buy of a Standard Issue USMC Fighting knife (K-Bar is what they called it) from a Military Surplus store- it's actually made by Ontario. I was told that a few companies such as K-Bar and Ontario are under contract to make these knives for the Marines using the exact...
I wonder if it's almost as good...
I wonder if it's almost as good a fighter without the false edge? I plan on keeping the knife in the house. Do those "non dagger/dirk" type laws usually apply to what you keep in your home too, or just what you carry around?
I ordered a Midnight Bowie from Knifeworks and it was shipped very quickly and the knife is everything they said it would be - it's even quite sharp. Unfortunately they did not sharpen the false edge. It seems like an inconvenience that I spent over $160. and now I have to figure out how to get...
What is the best way to test knife sharpenss? I'm new to collecting and someone told me you can't always tell a sharp knife by lightly touching it with your fingers.
Am I missing the point?
So, are you guys saying that you live in, or camp in the wilderness where you might encounter bears, or are you guys thinking that you would use bear mace on a human?
I forget the exact words, but I heard someone say something about a weapon being the best thing since bear mace. Is bear mace just used for bears, or is it some mega-dose that can be used on animals, people etc.?
Thanks for the welcome hso. Daniel, I found out from http://www.esa-swords.com/ that the blade does not come sharpened, but you can pay $10 additional and they will sharpen it for you. Now, if someone would tell me which one to buy :D
Out of the box sharp
Is there one you can recomend "out of the box" sharp? I was hoping to eliminate the extra step of having to take it somewhere to have it sharpened.
I went to a knife dealer who had a British Commando knife that I liked. It was $100. and he explained his is more expensive then cheaper copies. I found this knife on a website, but the prices vary from $62.49 - $100+. Whould I be purchasing the same knife, or are there important differences...
