Ruger Alaskan 44 Mag Holster Options?

Thanks for the input guys. I do like the looks of that Sourdough from Simply Rugged. I'm going to send them an email and ask a couple of questions about that particular holster. This is not a CCW piece. I have a dozen other pieces that are suitable for concealment... just don't like bulk on...

Ruger Alaskan 44 Mag Holster Options?

I'm looking for holster options for a Ruger SRH Alaskan 2.5". I want a strong-side that's low profile, and a shoulder rig. Who has recommendations? I haven't found much out there I like...

    hiking conceal carry gun

Not so much... Loaded weight of the G29 is just shy of two ounces more than the G23. The 10mm isn't that difficult to shoot (my 115# 5'4" GF picked it up for the first time and was shooting very well by the third mag load), especially with the pinky extension on the mag. You don't have to...

    What's you favorite 9mm autoloader?

XDm 9mm is my new favorite in that category... haven't had a chance to shoot it much yet, but I have the .40 as well and it's been great so far. I like the way they hold, point, etc. Both are very accurate with no problems at all for me....

    hiking conceal carry gun

Glock 29SF would get my vote... the size is between the G23 and G27. With grip extensions it shoots very well. I picked one up about six months ago and recently sold my G26 because I never carry it anymore. Plenty of wallop with the 10mm, conceals well, and is just large enough to hold well...

Best Handgun Caliber as a Sidearm for Hogs?

Looks like the .357 has better sectional density... about .224 compared to .205... kind of a given for the smaller diameter. Heavier bullet vs better SD... similar penetration with the .400 diameter probably creating a larger wound channel. I have both offerings from DT including the 200gr...

Best Handgun Caliber as a Sidearm for Hogs?

Not this one again... 10mm will edge out the 357 mag, and it's not "giving a lot to the 10mm." I'm not saying it's significant, which is why "edge" was the word. I simply stated that there's no reason to use a 357mag in place of a 10mm, especially if the OP wants to use an auto. Hot 10mm...

    SIG P250 opinions

I own several SIG's, and the P250 used to be one of them. It felt good in the hand, seemed to be accurate, and had a HORRIBLE trigger. If it was available in DA/SA like the 229 I would have purchased it in that configuration and would probably still have it. Everything else about the gun seemed...

    Opinions on XD & XDM

Didn't like the XD's.... ... Love the XDm's. Have a two tone in .40 and a black one in 9mm. Haven't had a chance to shoot the 9 much yet, but if it performs like it's bigger brother I'll be very happy.

    Which .40?

Springfield XDm I've had .40 cal Glocks, HK's, and SIG's in the past (still have one Glock that will run 40), but my favorite so far has been the XDm. I reaaaaally didn't like the XD's... could have been the poor trigger, brickish appearance and feel... whatever. Springfield did a helluva job...

Best Handgun Caliber as a Sidearm for Hogs?

I would vote for the 10mm as well. Those 230gr hardcast rounds from DT penetrate like you wouldn't believe. Top end to top end the 10mm is a more powerful round than the 357 mag. You can also run 30rg heavier bullets in it... there is no reason to use a 357 instead of a 10mm. If you're going...

Why would somebody use fiber optic sights instead of night sights?

Hmmm... no... I think this was the one about the FO and night sights?

Why would somebody use fiber optic sights instead of night sights?

I've had very good luck with them. I have a set on one G20 10mm that has seen a few thousand rounds, and another on a .40 that has seen well over a thousand. Been good for me so far.... handles full-house Double Tap 230gr 10mm loads so they're not light.

Why would somebody use fiber optic sights instead of night sights?

Truglo TFO sights- Tritium inside fiber optic rods. They light up during the day and at night too... ;)

what are th main knocks on Ruger P89 pistols?

I don't care for them due to weight, ergonomics, trigger and point of aim. The ones that I've shot in the past all had to have the front sight buried to hit at 15 yards, and none felt great in my hand. There is nothing wrong with them at all... I think that one just comes down to personal...

Which semi-auto pistol would you bet your life on out the box?

I have several autos in SIG, HK, Springfield, Keltec, Glock, etc. I would have to say Glock... simple and reliable. I've never had one fail when it was factory original. They're all good guns... just more parts to fail in the others, and I haven't fired my XDm's enough to trust them like the...

    The Glock 20 10 MM Pistol ?

Wow... can't believe this thread is still going. Seriously- THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A .40 S&W... THERE IS ALSO NOTHING WRONG WITH THE 10MM. I personally have two pistols in 40 and two in 10mm. You CANNOT load 40 to the same ballistics as a 10mm. The 10mm has more case capacity and a...

    The Glock 20 10 MM Pistol ?

Correct- a lot of off the shelf ammo is watered down... One of the reasons the 10mm isn't as popular as it should be. I roll my own, but for defensive rounds I mainly use Double Tap. I'm not sure what powder blend McNett uses (the one thing he won't tell you) but I can't duplicate his loads and...

    The Glock 20 10 MM Pistol ?

Couple points- Those who call the 40sw and 10mm "basically the same" are sorely mistaken or uninformed. I've not found a 40 that will throw 230gr Beartooths at nearly 1250fps, or 135gr Noslers at 1700. That's with my 6" Jarvis pipe, but still impressive. 50rd box of 10mm at Doubletap...
