    1895 Chilean Mauser?

Providing there is no lug set back, a cheap way, is to form some 30-06 to just close and shoot away. The thicker neck shouldn’t be an issue.

Impulse Lee Enfield No4 Mk4, manufacture date?

loose noose "Incidentally I believe your Enfield is a MK5, not a MK4, as the MK5 is the Jungle Carbine." ???? It says No4 Mk2 on the side of the receiver. mr

    45/70 loads

Henry45, Since it is a Hornady bullet I would continue using Hornady load data, and stay away from that Hodgon site. I have only been loading for 1895 marlin 45-70 for 25 years, so take it for what it's worth. mr

    25-35 or 219 zipper

"Go for the 25-35, for a number of reasons. It is nothing more than a 30-30 necked down. Brass, if unavailable, is easy to make." I want someone to show me how easy that one is. I make .219 Zipper from 30-30, using a shortened 7-30 Waters trim die, a 25-35 trim die then fl .219. Maybe if...

    Loading 45-70 for accuracy

You will also have to work crimping, as the cases are trimmed too short to crimp in a regular 45-70 seater/crimp die. I had an extra that I shortened to do a bunch of Hornady 1 fired.

    Hornady 30-30 brass

I bought some Hornady 30-30 hoping it was shorter to make .219 Zippers. It is regular length brass.

    Inexpensive reloader

Lee Loader I started out with a 12ga loader and it worked good on paper shells, but was a workout with plastic.I use the Lee Loader for the cartridge's/guns that are better off neck sized, 303 British, 30-30 in a TC and 22 Hornet. Have 303 British, 30-30, 22 Hornet, 357, 12&20ga, 30-06 and am...

    Head spacing question

Fire8523, I vote for not not using cases for head space measurements, too many variables. I suspect that 243winxb is on to something, take careful measurements of the fired case that will confirm chamber shape. I once reamed a chamber by hand and had the same symptoms, turned out to be reamer...

Talk me out of a Ruger No. 3 in 45-70

I can't talk you out of it, I have 2. As others have said it can kill at both ends with modern loads, ask me how I know. It only weighs 6 3/4 lbs. The first one I bought had a broken butt-stock which repaired, shot a box of factory loads. It was fun, starting loads from Speer manual REAL fun...

Mauser 98 weaver scope base help

I think it may be drilled for the Leupold 98 Mauser 2 piece base that fits over the charging clip hump, if the holes are that close together. my best guess with out seeing it.

Spainish m1916 MAuser 7.52 NATO vs 308 Win

Here is a pic of the conversion I mentioned in my above post. When i read about this conversion I pulled the barrel off one of the 1912 I had just to make sure of its conversion method. I have been looking for a 1916 7.62/308 to pull the barrel from to see if it was a re-barrel or a re-bore as...

Spainish m1916 MAuser 7.52 NATO vs 308 Win

I have a 1912 Styer that was converted to 308/7.62 by re-barreling. I saw pics of 95 Chilean that had the 7x57 chamber reamed out and an insert soldered in, then re-bored, rifled and chambered to 7.62. That was a scarey sight, what happens when the solder melts? The pressure arguments are moot.

    Lee enfield headspace

Doug has it right. The over size chamber tends to give the 303 a bad rap I had separations with light loads on the first reload, they didn't care how many times the brass was loaded. I set back a #4 barrel and the reamer barely cut. I want to re barrel but with a chamber cut with a custom...

    Savage 340 / Stevens 325b

I made mine out of a 1 1/8" socket and shimmed with brass sheet. A 1 1/16" size may be a better fit.

    Gunsmith Wages?

Gunsmith I don't want to discourage anyone from a career in the firearms field. Here is my story, I loved mechanics diesel/gas got a job doing it, began to hate it, got in to computers, changed career to computers, I can barley stay online long enough to send this reply. Loved guns all my life...

.303 in modern rifle,is it possible?

303 I too am partial to the old 303. 303 barrels are available from Shilen, Krieger and Pacnor, so I think a gunsmith could convert anything to 303 if you have enough $$$$. I have made a sporter from a No 4, set the barrel back and rechambered, I made my own scope mount and used an ATI...

Spainish Mauser 308, Any Ideas on this tree stump?

I wouldn't fire a small ring mauser converted to 7.62!!!!! I have pic's of a 1895 Chilean barrel that was sectioned, it shows an insert soldered in the chamber(because of 7x57 being longer) then the barrel was rebored to 7.62 and chambered. I don't want to be any where near when the hot powder...
