Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

Cool, thanks. Also, I updated my earlier post to include the info I found on the TL-30 gun safe. Dims on it is the same as the TL-15. Only the gun safe is showing slightly larger interior dims.

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

These are the lowest prices I found online. I do not know if the vendors are good & reputable, a local or well know vendor may charge more....i.e. YMMV, but this is nowhere near the $10K number being tossed around. Amsec Gunsafe RF6528 TL-30 72x35x29 (Outside dims) 65x28x23.5 (Inside dims)...

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

Well this in interesting/entertaining. Video of actual thieves breaking into a safe. Not sure what it's made of, but I'm sure it is fairly tough since it's a commercial high-risk location. 6 minutes / 2 safes, so a long way from TL-15 though...

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

Just to add a little more info to this, I think it is important to understand the various tests. What are they allowed do use to try to get into the box? Residential Security Container (RSC) 1.) ....shall resist at least 5 minutes of attack that would defeat its purpose. ... 3.) The...

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

I think it is wise to be skeptical & suspicious. ESPECIALLY in the gun safe market. The intent to mislead is pretty obvious from some outlets. Before finding that video, all I had to go on was info from people selling safes and a UL test that I didnt understand completely and didnt trust...

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

Heeler & newfalguy101, I think you missed the point of my post. "I was amazed at how strong that stuff underneath was though, even against two guys with two handed sledge hammers and well thought out power tools." I was impressed and plan to buy something built similarly. Elessar, I'm...

Breaking into a gun safe - UL testing

I've been researching safes on and off for years. I cut, weld and bend metal for a living and I know I could easily get into most gun "safes" in a few minutes. I can't imagine gathering up all my most valuable things and putting all my eggs in one of these straw baskets. Anyway budgets...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

So this AMSEC safe RF6528, looks like one heck of a good deal if protection is what your looking for. This safe would be the equivalent of an E or F rated (Solid 1" walls and 1.5" door) Graffunder safe right? At a price similar to a B rated safe (1/4" walls and 1/2" door). My only issue with...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

. Thanks for your help! That is good to hear. And now for extra credit.... :D Can you help me unravel the mystery construction of this other AMSEC model. Model# SE6831 http://www.amsecusa.com/gun-safes-HS-main.htm It only has an RSC rating but it is in the "High security" product section...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

I'm starting to suspect #3 (from my post above) more and more, perhaps that is why AMSEC wast very eager to help me understand the product. 7.7.2.1.4 The UL tests on TL-15 (and TL-30) deposit safes are limited to the door and front face only. Using pressure applying devices and carbide drills...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

Safe Guru's please help. I'm getting really frustrated trying to figure out what this safe is made of (thickness of steel on door and body). AMSEC insists that the body is made from 1/8" steel. RF6528 AMSEC TL-30 rated gun safe. http://www.amsecusa.com/gun-safes-HS-main.htm...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

The thing that scares me about a safe/RSC that isnt very secure is that unless it is very well hidden, which is usually very difficult to do, it's like a huge neon sign to the BG's saying, "hey all the good loot is in here". They are then going to get very determined to get what's in...

    Why a safe isn't enough!

Yeah I'm impressed with their work and that is what I plan to buy. If you sell them, PM or email me.

Buying a safe in the near future? You'll probably want to see this.

I can open any of the typical safes with 1/8" thick sides (or less on most of them) in 1-2 mintues with a jig saw. That doesnt mean they are useless, but people need to realize what they security they do and dont provide.

    Why a safe isn't enough!

I'm tempted to buy one of those $1000 safes from a1abdj and encase it in another layer of 1/4' plate. Making it look pretty enough to pass the wife test would be a PITA though....

    Why a safe isn't enough!

    >>A 12 gauge box is a 12 gauge box regardless of who makes it. That pretty much sums it up. I know nothing about safes, but I know steel. All the fancy baloney with locks and door bolts is just that...baloney. If the body is 12ga, I could get everything out in 5 minutes with a frigging jig...
