the mini-14's barrel is notoriously thin. once a few rounds go through the pipe, the barrel warms up and you start getting "flyers." cutting down the barrel will help alleviate much of this as there is less length to flex.
My ranch...
Great West Gunsmithing Package B - trigger job, Accraglass with atomized aluminum stock bedding, barrel cut to 16.5", crown and thread combo, gas port bushings, and a recoil buffer. John aka "Gundoc" also added a Smith muzzle brake.
just about any set of decent rings will work fine. too bad you already have the mount, you could have gotten this instead:

don't let them get you down GG. at ~$700, it is pricey, but the quality you get is second to none. while i wouldn't say it is the "coolest M14 stock," it certainly is up there. i have no complaints about mine. :D
not a wood stock, but their inventory is in constant flux, so keep checking back. the standard is well within your $1300 boundary.

workbench kit was purchased here. you supply your own hardware, allowing you to build the bench without any specified size constraints. the sucker is definitely sturdy.

yes, they do. but, you may want to see if your friend would be interested in a "Off-List Lower" instead. there are plenty of threads here as well as www.calguns.net that discuss this.
kaylee, if you use a "weird grip," you can run a detachable mag, BUT you cannot have a flash hider, collapsible stock, foregrip, or any other evil feature.
so, yes, it is quite horrific to be a firearms enthusiast in CA. :banghead: :D
i'd take RRA over Olympic anyday of the week. big plus of that kit, you get the 2-stage NM trigger. you may also want to check out www.del-ton.com. if you are on the cheap, check www.model1sales.com, but it's hit or miss.
threads like this truly support Admiral Yamamoto's reputed saying, “You cannot invade America. There is a rifle behind every blade of grass.”
i love this country. :D
personally, i'd go with bow and arrows, with hunting knives as my CQB weapon.
