Are Glocks the Best Trading Fodder or "Gun Currency"?

FireinCairo said: "Try wanting a Glock if you're from Massachusetts. You will pay $150-200 over new prices for a used one! Thanks to the attorney general, you can't buy a new Glock in Mass unless you're a leo. " This is not exactly correct. You can BUY a new Glock (or any other gun) in Mass...

    S&W 1911, SS or Scandium?

You're correct that in Mass. the only new .45's you can purchase from a retailer are S&W and Para I believe. But you can buy any gun privately from a Mass. resident. The only problem is finding someone who's selling what you want. If you check the classifieds here you'll often find it...

    S&W 1911, SS or Scandium?

Your reasoning is correct - the SS model is better if you don't intend on carrying it. The extra weight makes it a pleasure to shoot even +P loads. As far as reliability of SS vs. scandium, I don't think there's any difference. Occasionally the factory turns out a lemon, but that can happen...

9mm 147 Grain: Yes or No?

Posted by Man_With_A_Gun: STAY AWAY FROM LOW VELOCITY ( Sub sonic ) 147 grain loads. This was an FBI mistake in thinking a heavy, slow slug would do the job. The NEW stuff is great in +P loadings. That is not completely accurate. The Federal HST 147gr (normal pressure, subsonic) is the best...

    S&W 442 or Glock 26?

Except for the fact that the snubby is lighter, it loses on almost all other counts. - The .38 round is much inferior to the 9mm, even in +P. - The 442 only weighs 15oz, so light that recoil much worse than the G26 - The 442 only carries 5 rounds, compared to 11 for the G26 For those who...

    9mm ammo selection

Federal HST 124gr +P. It's got 150 f/s advantage over the 147gr +P. It's the velocity that provides consistent expansion. I'll take the added velocity over bullet weight. Gold Dot 124gr +P is also excellent.

    Trying to decide which compact

Jocko said: "just pretty darn hard to beat the Kahr PM9 for ultimate carry. they go bang every time, super quality, super trigger, all stainless slide and oh yes goes bang every time." Uhhh..... I've never owned a Kahr, but they certainly don't have a great reputation for reliability...

Best SD round for a 45ACP

Hydrashok is the old generation. HST replaces it and is much superior. Speer GD is excellent too.

    LWD Glock barrels

Be aware that LWD barrels have tighter chambers than Glock OEM barrels and often are not as reliable. Feeding and/or extraction problems can result. It's the price you pay for increased accuracy. Stick with OEM barrels for a defensive handgun. Also, LWD will sell you a barrel without the wolf...

    KahrCW's vs Baby Glocks?

This thread was just covered recently. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=381055 Baby Glocks win because of superior reliablilty and capacity, and equal concealability. The only thing you gain from Kahr is more comfort. But "guns are meant to be comforting, not comfortable".

    federal hst

That's pretty hard to believe. One of the largest stores in Massachusetts announced recently (within the last 3-4 months I'd say) that they now formally carry HST, available to all customers. They've actually had it available in dribs and drabs for at least a year, but it was hit and miss - I...

    Kahr or Glock

The only advantage to the Kahr PM9 is comfort, and that it can be pocket carried (although some claim they can pocket carry a G26 or G27, not me). The disadvantages (compared to G26): - 7 rounds vs. 11. That's a huge disadvantage in a real life situation. - 3" barrel vs. 3.5" (or 4" if you...

Recommend me a CCW holster for a G19

You're question is too broad. What type of holster are you looking for? OWB? IWB? IWB tuckable? There are many good ones within each category. For IWB I recommend Tucker's Texas Heritage, which is tuckable.

HST is the replacement for the old Hydrashok line. HST is NOT restricted to law enforcement sales. My local store stocks it and sells to everyone just like any other brand/model.

    About to buy carry gun.

Glock 26 should be a serious contender. Exceptionally reliable, tons of parts and accessories available, trivial to field strip and pretty easy to detail strip. Good capacity and very small. Some claim it's thicker than single stack guns like Kahrs, but I don't notice such things and I'd rather...

Several hundred rounds. Flawless. FMJ, JHP, this gun eats anything.

    9MM Carry Choice

1 - That's very subjective. There are many people who like the Glock's grip and dislike the XD's. 2 - What real use is a grip safety on a gun with a long trigger pull? I can see it on a 1911 but not otherwise. Most AD's occur during holstering, and a grip safety offers no protection in that...

    9MM Carry Choice

G26 is the best choice. It's small, good capacity, heavy enough to make recoil insignificant, light enough to be very comfortable to carry. One of the best arguments for the Glock is that it's so simple to disassemble and there are so many aftermarket parts for it. You can fix or improve any...

night sights yellow/green or orange/green which combo do you prefer?

Be aware that the orange sights are only rated for about 6-7 years half life (I forget the exact figure, see the Trijicon site for details). Green/yellow are normally 12 year half life.
