Gunboat escort ... for the Staten Island Ferry?

Charlies are the coax variant. They have the trigger in the normal place but a cut down pistol grip and no trigger guard so the trigger can be manipulated by the coax mechanism in the turret. See below. The Charlies in Bradleys are also right hand feed, interestingly enough.

Gunboat escort ... for the Staten Island Ferry?

That's the M240 7.62mm machine gun used all over the U.S. military. I'm not 100% sure but it looks like the standard 240 Bravo we use in the Army.

    Handgun purchases in Minnesota

It has been a year or two since I bought a handgun in MN but this was the case when I bought mine as well.

    Militarily are handguns obsolete?

This is incorrect. MPs get the CAB.

Question - current US military issue night vision goggles

I guess I could see that. I find it easier just to shoot from the shoulder because it provides a more stable platform to shoot from. But I see where you are coming from. It's not like NODs can see far enough to really need to make super precise shots.

Fourth Place Medal says most of them are the 1827 Anschütz Fortner. Article here.

Question - current US military issue night vision goggles

John Q. Pirate, Using NODs instead of a night vision scope allows Soldiers to walk, drive, and see in the dark. A night vision scope would only be useful for shooting at something. It would be useless for other tasks. Madcap_Magician, I don't see where you are going with this. If...

Question - current US military issue night vision goggles

Infrared laser devices. A good example is the PEQ-2. You attached them to a rail and zero them just like a regular laser sight. They work just like a regular laser sight except they are only visible if you are wearing NODs (Night Optical Device a.k.a. NVG).

    Tactical rifles

I've seen an M-4 run over by a HEMTT and the receiver was literally warped. Because of this the bolt would not cycle.

Police trade in's: what would you consider a good price?

I'm not very experienced with used guns, but I bought a used SIG 225 for $350 while I was on leave and I've been very happy with it. In good shape, extremely accurate, and a good shooter. I had one or two misfires, but I'm not sure if that was me or the gun.

who was responsible for the katrina gun confiscations ?

I just want to throw this into the mix since I personally had to deal with it on a small scale (personal crap) this week. Most people in the Army do not take well to having what they tell people to do disregarded. Esp if we are talking senior officers or (esp) senior NCOs. It's very...

Best way to carry concealed for a shrimp?

Oohhh, ohhhh, pick me! I'm 5' 11 1/2" and just weighed in at 151 pounds in PTs and flip-flops. Almost exactly the same build as you. My carry gun is a Glock 23, twin to your Glock 19. So, physically we are in pretty much the same boat. I don't know what your personal preferences are, but...

Advice needed for a new shotgun

My best friend had a Remington 870 Express Youth model in 20 gauge for many years. He gave it to his sister and is trying to get her to give it back so his wife can use it. It's a great shotgun.

    Beretta 92FS

I have one and love it. I think it's a very classy gun and it's very comfortable to shoot. My only reservation would be it's a little on the large side if you are looking for a carry gun. Since you already have a Glock 19 (twin to my preferred carry gun, a Glock 23) you are probably covered...

NICS Check Delaying Iraq Vets ?

I bought two handguns while I was home on leave directly from Iraq. I also had a security clearance being processed at the time (investigation closed, but not adjudicated). Both times the NCIS check cleared and I walked out with the pistol.

Since the demise of the AWB how many have switched from a 1911 to a high cap

I hate to break up the greater-than-7-rounds hate fest, but I've been carrying a Glock 23 since before the AWB sunset. I shoot it pretty accurately, it carries well, and I'm comfortable with it. I bought a Kimber while I was home on leave and I like it, but it just doesn't do it as a carry gun...

    Too many compacts.

I'll give you my recommendation, with two caveats. One, you should buy whatever you are most comfortable with. Anything by Colt, Kimber, Para-Ordnance, Glock, Springfield, S&W, SIG, H&K, CZ, Kahr or any other decent brand will serve you well. And two, you will probably have every brand that I...

Finally got my Glock 31, 150 rounds later I am in love

Not to rain on the parade, but my best friend carried a Glock 33 for several months. He eventually sold it because even ball ammo was pretty pricey and the selection was very poor, esp carry loads. And this was in a good sized city, not a rural town. If you have a good source for .357 SIG...

Why no luck for M16 100rd Beta Drums in the military?

Jeremy2171, Don't forget the Improved First Aid Kit (IFAK). For those of you who haven't seen them, the IFAK is a pouch about the size of two thick paperbacks. It has a bunch of immediate use kind of medical supplies. Tourniquet, pressure dressing, gauze, etc.
