Need value on a Deerslayer quickly!
95% Deerslayer with 20" barrel. Made in the early 80's I believe.
Front sight is intact and bluing is very good.
A few places on the wood are peeling but otherwise very nice.
Guy is asking $350.
Fair price or would $300 be more the norm?
My Blue Book...
mustanger, I already own the rifle and probably paid less for it than a new Savage.
Just thought an aperture sight on a bolt '06 might make a handy woods gun.
Someone here has to have a picture.
If you can find a picture online that would work too.
I've looked and did not come up with...
I have an older (late 70's) remington 700 BDL .30-06 and it is drilled & tapped on the side of the left side of the receiver for a aperture sight.
Lyman makes a model 57 that will fit it.
Would like to see a picture of a 700 with the aperture sight on it.
Can anyone tell me what year...
7-08 would be a fine choice.
Lots of versatility and a heavier selection of bullets to choose from if you decide to use it for elk.
Also, I like the short-action cartridges.
Remington model 7 CDL with a nice Leupold or Nikon 3-9X40 scope.
If I were reduced to just one deer rifle it would be...
To go with a classy single-action you need a classy lever-action.
Find yourself a Winchester 9422 Magnum while there's still a few out there.
You might still be able to find a new one in the box.
Just my 2 cents and speaking from experience.

2nd choice would be a CZ452
Extremely nice find!
I have a 3-screw .41 mag and the 3-screw SBH is on my short list this year as well as some caliber with a 4 5/8" barrel.
That's an awesome score with the correct box and all. It will only go UP in value if you take care of it.

I own both but prefer the Marlin for many reasons:
1) Ease of disassembly. 1 screw holding the lever in and then you can take it down and clean it from the breech.
2) Solid top-strap for scope mounting.
3) Marlin is just a more solidly built rifle.
4) Marlin's customer service has been...
So are we talking a $500-$700 rifle?
Looks to me like something to pick up and hold ontoas the value shoudl only increase over time.
I think I will go ahead and purchase it.
What ammo recommendations do you have?
Thanks for the info and the link!

Anyone else?
Yeah, I think I will go with 2-piece bases adn use the existing rings.
May save another ounce!
I love the Mtn Rifles too. My favorite is a .280 that I used to kill my first deer with.
Found a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle chambered in .257 Roberts yesterday. From the date code on the barrel it is a '91 model. These were only made from '91-'94.
Gun is in very good condition. Bluing is every bit of 95% with only a couple of tiny imperfections. Wood has a lot of scratches but...
I had the grips off before I bought it.
Not too bad. A small amount of wear but nothing really noticeable.
It should have the walnut grips with gold medallions.
Think I have a line on a pair already.
Once I get them on it I'll post a picture.
Had a gunsmith check it out.
Other than the grips it's all original.
Let's just say I was able to get it for about half of what you guys were coming up with so I think it was a wise investment.
Thanks for the input!

Found a 1969 Colt Gold Cup National Match in about 95% condition with Pachmyr grips. Has the original 2-piece cardboard box with the red cardboard insert.
What's a fair price?
I am debating between this gun and another one.
Thanks!
Bump for more info please.
Does anyone here currently own one of these?
What kind of patterns does it shoot.
Really interested in knowing that before I decide to purchase.
Thanks!
