    21 to buy assault rifles?

I must admit I haven't been around here as much in recent years since deploying, but last time I checked an AR-15 was just a long rifle you could buy at 18. What happened that changed this, and are they still using the 1994 definition of assault weapon? Is it national?

    Boot camp

The Marine Corps never gets easier, you just get better at it. There's a reason there are so few of us. Be fast, be organized, be loud when they demand it, stay silent to survive. You're greatest enemy there is yourself, and you should have complete control over him. Good luck.

    SKS Rifle still won't cycle

I would say it's the ammo. I got a Yugo SKS several years ago that developed this problem in a singe range trip. It worked fine for the first few mags of Wolf, but then I started getting consistent FTE and stovepipes. The advice I got from here was clean the chamber. So I got a 12GA. bore brush...

    Something Strange about New Pistol

Agreed with y/m/d. That's how all our paperwork in the Marines is dated. Though I'd expect it to have a zero in front of the five.

    USMC Marksmanship Video

I went into the Corps being nothing more than a casual plinker, and was surprised by how simple the instruction seemed to be, but I believe what made it so good was always highlighting the little details with all the fundamentals. The only technique that was a surprise to me was the concept of...

    Suppressor as a barrel extention

Sounds reasonable. The only snag I could see would be having a short barrel for the time before you attach your silencer. Maybe do the barrel build at a buddies place where there's no mistaking that the barrel wont get up on it's own and jump on a receiver?

S&W Sigma 9mm magazine loading problem.

I've noticed the same thing. I haven't tried it will the two rebate mags I've got yet, but out of the two that came in the box, one will easily fit the 16 rounds, while the other I can barely fit the 15th in. I never paid it much mind, simply figuring the alternating stacking might not have gone...

    AR question

True. As part of drill practice we would lock our bolts back to practice gently setting the butt on the deck during order arms. Also, I've seen tapping the butt of the weapon as common practice to close the bolt among people accepting (for turn in) more than one weapon at a time. Interesting...

    Scope mounting on AR?

I personally would place it forward of the charging handle. When shooting prone with irons I find my nose rests on the charging handle. When we received the RCO's for our A4's we were simply told to mount it wherever we could get a comfortable eye-relief. I would say a few inches forward and...

Mall Ninja and PROUD OF IT! Plus some range reports.

Because it's not nearly as much fun when someone is telling you what you have to do. When you're enlisted it's not fun play anymore and you don't get to choose when to take a break. And no pistol bayonets.

Do you have to be a resident for this process or is it offered for the non-resident permits as well?

    Calling all Marines!

They sold gel insoles at our recruit PX, but I don't believe anyone ever bought them. Just because they might be available for you to buy, doesn't mean you're allowed to have it. More than likely they're available for people who have been ordered by medical that they need them. Then the Drill...

    Del-Ton Upper

I ordered one from them over a month ago and haven't heard either way about stocking issues. As long as they don't charge me for nothing in return I guess I can't complain too much.

just got back from Appleseed! Some observations, what i learned, and some questions.

NPOA is what I was taught in Marine Corps boot camp, and it works. The marksman instructors train roughly 600 recruits a week, so it can't be much of a joke. We actually spent more time 'snapping in' than actually on the range. An entire week, at least 8 hours a day setting up our positions and...

    The Works: Firearms

I only saw the first half, (I got bored when he loads the .50 cal and says anything bigger is illegal. I I guess he didn't remember that hole from the slug he shot) but from what I saw, I really liked that he made the point that guns were only simple mechanical objects, and ammunition simply...

    Proper M4 shooting form

The armor is the reason I hold the stock high in my shoulder. Sure it's a little loose feeling at times, but it beats cranking my neck over to see through the sights. That's why this thing looks so interesting. http://www.duostock.com/r&d.html

    Life without guns and bombs.

I guess I'm out of a job then. Oh well, that's why we keep out bayonets sharp.

    great photo....

Dunno about the optics, but I have no doubt it still fired. Those rifles are a lot hardier than the way I've heard most people talk about babying their AR-15. In boot camp our rifles had an entire month of abuse from Dill Instructors before we even fired them. It wasn't uncommon for someone mess...

    great photo....

Nope. M16A4, 20 inch barrel, and acog, standard for what we use over there now. The setup is widespread enough now that we're finally using it in combat training at Pendleton and retiring the A2.
