    remington model 10- need parts

I'm looking for an extractor spring, and an unlabeled part on my diagram, but it can be described as a spring shaped similiar to this bracket symbol { and it holds the release button (on the receiver) which releases the action bar. Does anyone know of a source other than Numrich? They...

    degreasing for rust bluing

What's the preferred cleaning solution to boil the parts in prior to applying the rusting solution? Currently, I wipe the parts with acetone, then I boil the parts in Simple Green and water, then wipe them with denatured alcohol, but I wonder if there's a better method. I struggled a...

    rust bluing question

...I cleaned it to what I thought was spotless, but with everyone's input stressing the level of clean, I'm going to focus on cleaning the next project. It makes sense, too. The bad spots eventually turn, but never blend in completely. I'll guess because the first 4 or 5 applications had no...

    rust bluing question

I've blued about 15 guns now and have an occasional problem come up. I get some brownish/ red stains in random places after 4 or 5 applications sometimes. Nothing major, but as I finish more coats, the random spots do not turn to a black, nor a gray, they just stay brownish red. They...

FN Browning Auto 5 bluing question

...that's probably where I'm hung up when I compare all 3 of my auto 5's. The two with the factory finishes are polished to a level the the rust bluing cannot allow. I think I'm wrong for try to compare all 3 side by side. I caught some information from a similar thread over on shotgun...

FN Browning Auto 5 bluing question

I have built a work center "on wheels" so to speak. I can roll this out the side door of my barn and let the fumes disperse without a worry. I live out in a rural environment, so there's no one around to complain about it. I've all the saftey gear for the work. I'm going to begin to...

FN Browning Auto 5 bluing question

I'm hung up on whether to keep the satin type of sheen that comes with a rust blue, or polish it to my best ability and hot salt it. I've rust blued a dozen old guns and feel proficient, but with the hot salts, I would only feel confident if I knew that there was a recipe out there I could...

FN Browning Auto 5 bluing question

I have an old standard 12 (circa 1952) that I'm cleaning up and I chose to rust blue the shotgun. It was in bad shape, and so far, I've took it down to bare metal, removed a couple scratches and dings, and worked through a series of polishing exercises. I've completed the receiver and barrel...

    Browning Auto 5 forends

Is the 16 gauge and 20 gauge(light 20) the same dimensions? I have a 16 gauge forend that is identical to my sweet 16 forend, but I'm wondering if the light 20's are the same size.

browning auto 5 trigger spring & pin

I did a little surfing and found an old style spring at Lee's guns in Irving, TX... it wasn't as obsolete as I thought it would be. Thanks for the help.

browning auto 5 trigger spring & pin

My favorite slug gun (light 12 w/ buck barrel) had the trigger spring break while hunting the day before thanksgiving. I had an old standard 12 pulled apart on the bench, so when I got in that night, I fitted the older spring (with the wings) to the newer housing by removing those wings. I was...

    NY State Pistol Permit Proccess

I live in Erie county also and find it rather amusing. I actually got my permit in the late 1980's and for some small time in that era, they didn't put any use at the top of a permit. I had my address updated on the permit a couple years ago, and they then added "hunting/ target" to the top...

    winchester model 12 assembly

    winchester model 12 assembly

..thanks for the input. I'm going to look at how I assembled the slide lock with the two springs that sit on the hammer. Do both springs sit on top of the boss on the hammer, or does each spring straddle the boss on the hammer?

    winchester model 12 assembly

...I got it last night. The breech bolt needed to be set all the way forward, locked in place. That's all it was. The bad news is that the slide is staying locked after the gun is fired (not live, just a snap cap). I need to press the slide lock lever and then the slide jumps back about 1/4"...

    winchester model 12 assembly

How do I re- assemble the barrel assembly to the receiver? I've tried it with the block open, but no good. I feel some kind resistance as I try to slide the forend back to "lock" it in place. This should just snap into position after I tighten the barrel into it's position, right? It sure...

    polychoke removal

I have a barrel for a winchester model 12 and thought the polychoke was soldered in place. I heated the area quite a bit and had no luck. Does anyone know how these chokes are removed?

    First time hot bluing

...thanks much for all the safety tips. I've been reading all about the procedure for 4-5 months now and I have all the safety equipment. My setup is in a well ventilated area of my barn. When I slide the doors open, I'm basically outside, but covered by a roof. Cross breeze up on this hill...

    First time hot bluing

I built some hot tanks 6x 6x 36 using some 10ga steel plate. It's rusty, but not terrible. What do I have to do to the tank that will hold the hot salts? Can it remain rusty or does it need to be sandblasted or something?
