Home defense long gun - which and why

I voted Shotgun - even though I don't use mine for HD - barrel is too (it's a hunting shotgun with a 28" pipe). To the folks that said "The whole racking of a shotgun to scare the BG's off with the sound is BS" Ever been on the receiving end of that sound? I have, and I assure you, I...

How bad is your case of milsurp "sickness"

My deer rifle is a 1945 Mosin Nagant M44 - with Bayonet still attached and original sights. Does that mean anything? Oh yeah, I have empty "spam cans" littering my garage and I'm on first name terms with some of the folks at AIM Surplus :)

    SHTF Rifles 101

"So can you all get Saigas in Canada?" Nope, I'm in Atlanta, GA. The SAIGIA in .223 is a good idea. Personally, I'd go for an AR15 in 5.56x45 and a G19 with .22 conversions for both. The .22lr conversions will allow you to train quite a bit before hitting the "Expensive" line.

AR-15 what is it good for?

Got a home built unit - built it off a 80% lower. Shoots, cycles and operates just fine. No failures so far. I don't clean often either.

Your opinion bout "Mannlicher"-stocks +more questions

The difference in stock is a personal preference and does not really influence reliability, accuracy or ability as a whole. I like the full stock type rifles - sometimes called Mannlicher. Also look at the CZ range of full stock rifles. They are cheaper and dead nuts reliable/accurate. For...

    Buyin' a Mosin-Nagant

AIM Surplus has the best shipping policy/prices IMO. Congrats on your M44 - it looks to be in great shape. Nice thing about Mosins, is that you really can't buy a dud with them. They are so solid that very few things can go wrong with them.

    Best gun never made

Glock in 7.62x25 with a folding stock carbine that uses the same magazines. The barrels on th epistols and carbines have to be interchangable with 9MM, 9x18 and .380 as well. The same setup in 10mm/357SIG/40S&W would do as well. Both weapons have to have .22lr conversion kits.

The 'ideal' sniper rifle... whoda thunk?

A good 6.5 or 7mm cartridge should give you better SD and BC than most standard .308 caliber systems. Different tools for different jobs....the .4XX and up calibers are generally anti-material rifles. The .30's are mostly anti-personnel.

    Did I mangle my Mosin?

From what I've seen with other folks' rifles....check headspacing. Are we talking about a matching #'s rifle? Never had this issue with either one of my mosins. Good luck

    I have $1000 to spend

    For the $1000? Get a SAIGA in .223 http://thegunsource.com/store/Item.aspx?PID=56178 and ammunition: http://www.the-armory.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/223_ammunition.html That's $267.59 + $149.99 = $417.58 for a handgun, I sugest: A Glock 17 from CDNN....sometimes as little as...
