I watched one of the u-tube videos which talked about using a nylon partially threaded bolt (1/4" x 3"). I got a pack of them from amazon, cut the head and threaded portion off using bypass garden shears and installed it. Turns out it was just in time. I pulled the original pin out of the gun...
Browning has been mentioned quite a bit and I agree. They're well made, hold up well and won't break the bank. I would also agree with the folks that suggest an o/u. You can pretty much shoot any game out there with it. Do you want a 32" or 34" barrel? Internal or external chokes? adjustable...
I live in Philadelphia. The crime rate is sky rocketing. Shootings, robberies, road rage and car jackings are all increasing by the day. A gun that is easier to get to in an emergency is a good thing. Thus the look for a good cross draw.
My edc is a S&W 642 in a triple K IWB holster. This set up has worked well for me in the past but lately I have been thinking about putting my CZ PCR in the rotation. The rise in crime(especially car jacking) in my town has me a bit concerned and I'm thinking about using a cross draw holster...
My first gun was a 16 ga. bolt action Mossberg I bought with my paper route money. I moved around a bit after leaving the military and it got lost/stolen in one of those moves.
might take a look at the CZ 712 utility G2. Comes with 5 chokes, has a 4+1 capacity and costs less than $600. I own a CZ skeet gun and a 9mm pistol and like the quality of both.
might not want to go much farther than an improved modified choke from the 16 yard line. A man I shoot with has an extremely bad back and shoots from a seated position on a three legged stool. He's in his mid eighties and does pretty well. by the way, welcome back!
Thanks for your comments guys. It seems that the more I look into it, the more difficult the decision becomes. I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the choices. Since I want the air gun for pest control, I may just stick to my trusty 10/22 with sub sonic loads to get the job done.
I'm new to air guns. I'm looking for an inexpensive, quiet and accurate rifle that is simple to operate and maintain. I want to use it for pest control....mainly rabbits and ground hogs. Am I wrong in thinking a .22 will have more hit than a .177? Is a gas piston better than a spring? A pcp may...
I have two trap guns. one with a 32" barrel and the other with a 34". I shoot the shorter barrel much better than the 34. It swings better and helps me with my timing. Once the gun is on my shoulder, sight radius becomes moot. When I call for the target, I don't look back at the barrel. I trust...
I load Federal paper. 1-1/8 load #8 shot. There are enough people at my club who buy it off the shelf and are kind enough to save their hulls for me. Otherwise, top gun or gun club in the same configuration would be my choice.
Stick with the basics....keep your face on the gun, keep the gun moving and watch the clay break over top of the barrel (finish the shot) before lifting your head from the stock.
Bought the tomcat in 32 acp many years ago. The frame cracked after not too many rounds through it. Beretta replaced the gun free of charge with an Inox version. I still have it although I haven't shot it much. The ammo for this little thing is pretty expensive.
