    Want some advice...Buying a safe.

My humble advice...Just like optics buy quality. That just plain means you are going to have to spend a good chunk of change. If you don't have the money now then save up for it. It took me three years to buy a Liberty high end model. You can find good deals at outdoor shows etc. Talk to the...

    Wild West Gunfighters

Just a couple of random comments.... A buddy of mine who was a Navy SEAL in the early 1970's said they trained with no hearing protection also. Same reason...you wouldn't have it in the field. I stupidly left off my ear muffs in a closed indoor rifle range. One round from my AR left my...

    approached in a parking lot...

No one has raised the concern that this young man might not have been alone. As Clint Smith says "wolves travel in packs". It is not out of the realm of possibity that another jerk or two could have been approaching the car from behind say. You may not have even seen them. The immediate threat...

    Thoughts on New Mexico

Folks thank you very much for all the info. Your impressions are appreciated and I will be chewing on them for awhile ! NM sounds like pretty much any other place on this planet, with upstaters and downstaters, rural and urban, low and high income, natives and new arrivals. In other words...

    Thoughts on New Mexico

Hey I appreciate the rapid response on this ! A little background. Last summer we spent two weeks driving around NM. I wanted to gauge the heat factor and was impressed that in August the mornings were down right chilly in places. It wasn't like living there for sure, but at least we got to see...

    Thoughts on New Mexico

Saw a similar thread on Colorado and thought you folks could help out. I currently live in the North East in suburbia (can't tell you how much I hate the politics, gun laws, crowding etc). Wife and I have been to New Mexico and really liked it. Would be interested in your impressions of it...

Gunman at church, what would you do?

Jshirley, if you have checked this with a lawyer than I guess those are the rules. As an aside if you want to see what the potential consequences are of not being armed in a public situation take a look at this article. I live not far from this dinner. It is in an affluent neighborhood. Just...

Gunman at church, what would you do?

Great poll question ! I answered other. I would tell my family quietly to move past me and start to leave the church. If they required a kick in the butt to do so I would. Then I would take position aiming at the target (watching for the area beyond the target downrange). Screaming "drop the...

Heller Decided! (several threads merged, new ones will be locked)

I was intrigued by the following: "Miller said, as we have explained, that the sorts of weapons protected were those ‘in common use at the time.’ As I would read it that would mean that 2A is an EVOLVING right with technology. Anyone have input on wether knives and non-lethal weapons...

    NSSF Shooting Sports Summit

I was wondering if anyone was actually at the NSSF Shooting Sports Summit in Colorado Springs today? If so, can you give us your impressions? I caught one of the webcast presentations on www.espnoutdoors.com and to be quite frank I was not impressed. The room didn't look very well attended (less...

    Anybody have a homemade gun?

I believe I read at some point that the courts found you could build a firearm for yourself but you can not transport across state lines without getting the ATF involved. If it stays in the state of manufacture its fine. But do check with a lawyer first, then the ATF.

My First and Probably Last Post: An Open Letter

Wow, sounds like you need a good therapist. Seriously. The remnants of your family situation are quite visible. Your dragging this baggage around and your how old? I could be quite a smart ass towards you but I won't. I choose not to be. See, that is control. I think your post is actually quite...

The Shape of Things to Come - Guns in the Future

Here is another twist to this. An article the other day noted that some scientists are predicting robots that are self aware within 50 years. Even if it is 100 years it still fits in this discussions time frame. http://www.todayonline.com/articles/259720.asp If in fact we have such things...

The Shape of Things to Come - Guns in the Future

moooose102 - if traditional firearms fade away I wonder how that would affect the second amendment. It references the rkba ARMS. Might that be construed to mean ONLY firearms? If not, then are swords and tasers for instance protected under the 2A now? I don't think I have heard any lawyer types...

The Shape of Things to Come - Guns in the Future

Just to give you a better perspective on the time frame here are some things to ponder. 100 years is 25 Presidential election cycles away. Using the 20th century as a reference: from 1900 to 2000 we went from horse and buggy to men on the moon. The USA was in two World wars, Korea...

The Shape of Things to Come - Guns in the Future

First let me say that I really didn't know where to post this thread (moderator - if it needs to be moved go ahead). Let me start off with the following. The Japanese business folks have always intrigued me. It is typical for Western businesses to put together 1 year, 5 year, or even 10-year...
