thanks for the responses thus far fellas. yup, i double checked with my friend today we were indeed firing 44mags, not specials. they were factory loads. anyways my primary question here is: does the barrel length affect felt recoil? and if so how much?

i already have a 10/22 (not magnum) and im kinda wanting a 17 hmr rifle, as far as i know, ive got two choices for an auto. 1) rem 597 and 2) ruger 10/22 mag with a barrel conversion.... id probably rather go with the rem 597 cause it will be way less of a pain in the ass and a lot less money...
id like to buy a nice rimfire rifle, i was looking at the rem 597 hb ls magnum in 17 hmr...anyone ever owned/fired one of these?? id like to try to figure out what kind of accuracy to expect out of the box. would i be better off to buy a used 10/22 mag and convert it to 17? it would cost like...
