    Ruger LC9

For pocket carry I prefer DOA's, e.g., the LCR. I took right to the original LC9. For a small pistol it is easy to shoot accurately.

Police shield / 7.62 x 39 penetration (From Paris incident)

The guy that was carrying that, as the bullets smacked into it, was no doubt dropping multiple French F bombs as he moved forward with fear and fortitude, thinking I must protect my brothers behind me. Welcome to the Tougher Than S... Club mon frere!

    Powdered graphite vs. oil

I have used molybdenum disulfide powder (KG 7) on bolts and slides. Even on lead bullets. It works very well and stays very well. A 2 oz container will last for years. IMO, the best dry lube available. But...it does make a bit of a mess to clean off. It finds it's way into every corner and...

    Marlin 1894 accuracy woes

This thread got my attention because I have a older Marlin 1894CP that has never grouped much better than my Model 29 with the same loads. It has Ballard rifling and a 16" barrel, but the best I have ever shot with it is 3-4" @ 50 yds. I shoot only jacketed bullets in it. Best load is 240...

    1911 grips

I took the very nice double diamond walnut grips off and put on a set of Keyes Fiber replica grips I bought for $6.00. They always worked well for me. Function over form.

    .38 Special

I have an old M9A1 Gas Mask bag that I use to carry a few essentials some times when I am out hiking the forest. Something less than a day pack, and much lighter. My .38 Spl LCR fits very nicely in it and the little internal accessories pocket holds a few speed strips. There will always...

    Ruger P-series stories and experiences

I bought a very used P95DC and carried it afield for many years, mostly because I did not have worry about banging it up. Never a problem with it. Pretty accurate too. Gave it to my kid...his first auto pistol. He loves it.

Celebrating the 4th with some US service rifles.

Very nice! Especially the M16's. The tools helped keep us free and independent.

    New M1As, any good?

Echos my sentiments as well. I bought the base SAI M1A and dropped it into a nice USGI stock. Added a period sling and I had a nice looking, good shooting, M1A/14, for < $1,5000. It sure turns a few heads at the range, when I pull it out of the old wool GI blanket I wrap it in.

Did you teach your daughters to shoot?

I taught my daughter with a Chipmunk rifle. She was a fair shot. She qual'ed Sharpshooter in Army BCT. I was very glad she knew how to handle a rifle well:

    Ruger LC9

I really like my LC9. For a small auto, it is actually fun to shoot. So it get a lot of range time. It also seems to find it's way into my day pack or back pack. Couple of spare mags and I'm good to go. A hybrid Kit gun.

    1911 question poll

I occasionally carried 1911's when I was in the US Army. Both overseas and stateside I carried in condition 3. Currently, I open carry my 1911 when I am hiking/fishing/camping. Condition 3. Old habits are hard to break.

    Remington 1911 R1

My son-in-law put a USGI trigger in my R1. It improved the already good trigger and really improved the look, (I did not care for looks of the factory trigger). I purchased a Kimber .22 conversion kit that fit the R1 without any fuss or fitting. It took a few mags to smooth out the...

ArmaLite sneaks out an "Economy" model?

I purchased ArmaLite's previous econo-model, the LEC15A4CBK, $930 couple of years ago. http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=LEC15A4CBK&ReturnUrl=Categories.aspx?Category=f7c054fc-87a1-41f1-89bf-df84e8fd90f4 It spec's just like one of those Defenders with the exception of having a 1:9...

round balls in 45 colt, anyone try this??

At the height of the ammo/reloading supply shortage I dug out some old .454 round balls and loaded them into .45LC cases. My old Speer #10 had load data for powders I had, but I went with Trail Boss and worked up my own loads. The loads were quite mild, but very accurate, as I recall...

    Rem 788 .44 mag thoughts

Rem 788. Rear locking, artillery style bolt. Very strong action. Fantastic lock time/trigger. I bought one in 1970 for $69.00, 6mm Rem. Traded it 15 years later for a NIB Win 94. Boy, did I ever regret that deal.

What on earth is a Navy Arms Siamese Mauser .45-70?

I looked at this thread because it jarred a distant memory. I recall a Guns Magazine article written by Hoyt Axton. I am pretty sure he reviewed the rifle in question in the early 80's. He mentioned that it greatly reduced the distance the deer runs after being shot, this being important to...

Stock for a Marlin Model 81

There is one on Gun Broker, but not for the earlier models. You may be better off buying the entire rifle just to get the stock. They usually go for around $100 or so.

    need a DAO pistol - Sig P250 or P229?

My daughter gave me a .45 ACP P250 with her unit inscription and logo on it, when she returned from Afghanistan. Being a DA revolver guy, I took to the trigger right away. A long pull, but smooth, consistent and lighter than say my GP100. As mentioned, very comfortable grip frame and...
