I've shot the P226 (had a NSW Navy), a P229 (owned both DA/SA and DAK models), a P220, a P232 (owned a stainless, shot a alloy framed model), and owned various P239s (DAK, DA/SA, .40, 9mm) and the only handgun I have left is my DA/SA P239 in 9mm. Hands down my favorite Sig pistol.

Check out the M&P R8 from Smith & Wesson. It looks to be pretty pricey, but it has a rail and I don't think it's terribly large. Of course, I've never seen one before so I could be wrong.
