I just purchased a smith model 29-3 . It has a scope grooved barrel. Like a ruger. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this type to know if the rings required to mount a scope are smith only options or aftermarket also. This gun is not drilled n tapped but has scalloped grooves.
Tuckerdog, I don't know which is more awesome you're FA 454 or you're wife for getting it for you. Nice revolver, the one I'm looking someday to own. I guess right now my fav is my 19-4 Smith. It's handy to carry in the woods and accurate as all get out.
It seems that the 125 load also [hits] the forcing cone harder than 158 or heavier loads because they are easier to start accelerating. They are reported to crack the cone after alot of shooting in k frames. Again I reiterate Rugers don't suffer this problem.
I have a couple of model 19 k frame smith wessons, and have read that the reason they are weaker in the forcing cone is that they have some metal removed from the bottom outside of it to have room for their ejecter rod. The Ruger is not designed this way, and doesn't have the same weakness here...
Just purchased an old 19-2 smith off gun brokers. Tried for bargain but when my dealer received it the rifling looks shiny but some of the lands are worn gone [ 1 or 2 ]. The rest look pretty well defined especially after 1 inch or so past forcing cone. Guns in lay away so I can't shoot it for...
