    .45 ACP Measurement

I believe no benefits occur by crimping any bullet which does not have either a groove (lead) or a cannelure (jacketed) designed to receive it. So, even if you had jacketed RN bullets, there is still no reason to crimp into the bullet for .45ACP. By reducing the diameter at the case mouth...

    .45 ACP Measurement

SAAMI shows 0.473" diameter at case mouth, and anywhere from 1.190" to 1.275" for COL. Your Dillon .45ACP dies do not have a combination seat/crimp die. Station 3 is the seating die and station 4 is the crimp die, which is a taper crimp. The intent of the taper crimp is to just remove...

    case trimmer?

The Giraud is an excellent trimmer for bottleneck rifle calibers, but, as it indexes off the shoulder I do not believe it will work for pistol calibers. Also, the amount of labor involved in trimming pistol calibers is usually much less, as resizing does not cause an increase in case length...

    Dillon 550b Failsafe Rod

I found that the shoulder washer moves down more easily than it moves sideways. I do as the previous poster said and raise the ram part way, but pull down on the shoulder washer instead of sideways. Once the washer has cleared the slot, the steel rod passes through the slot easily.

Were these unintended consequences not expected?

I'm pretty sure Washington State law says courthouses have to provide secure storage for guns while the person is in court. This may vary from location to location, but it is at least worth exploring, rather than either of the alternatives mentioned above. (Leave gun at home, carry it in...

    Bullseye reloads for 45acp

On another forum, a newcomer posted something similar (run-on sentences and no attempt at punctuation) and somebody rewrote it as a "public service", so that the newcomer might get some useful answers. The newcomer probably didn't notice that the forum had some "unofficial style guides", which...

    Arguing About The Rules

I know this snippet was taken out of context, but bear with me - Think of Rule 1 as part of a mindset, not a set of scientific or legal statements. The presumption of Rule 1 is that all guns are always loaded, unless you prove it otherwise. Each and every time you pick one up. And...

    Arguing About The Rules

I read them. Frank Ettin hit the heart of the matter with this - Cooper had a similar amplifying statement following each of the Rules, not just Rule 1. Our local range just held an NRA Action Pistol training shoot, and the Four Rules were part of the safety training. The instructor...

    Ruger No. 1 single-shot rifles,,,

I have two (well, one belongs to my wife...) in .30-06 and .243. They were 1.5 to 2 MOA out of the box, with reloads improving this a little. I tried the Hicks Accurizer and it didn't do what I wanted. Finally gave up and had both rebarreled, restocked, barrels floated and triggers...

    Cold range vs. Hot range

Our range tried to address all of your concerns by having the following in place - Normal ranges (pistol, rifle, rimfire) Action pistol range At the normal ranges, the rules in effect are concealed carry is permitted but the gun must remain holstered at all times. So far, there has...

    black bear 44 mag load?

Has Canada eased up on pistols? The last time I checked, Canada liked bringing pistols into the country sort of like Ebola... So, regardless of load, how is it that you get to have a pistol for backup? (Curious... :) )

Breaking News, Senate Signs Off On Guns On Post Office Grounds

See this - http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_FedEx_a_government_entity Federal express is a private entity and laws related to the USPS and "federal property" do not apply. They set whatever rules they want for "public with CCW" access to their buildings, which probably vary from state to...

    Ruger MK II scope removal

Maybe a couple of links will help - Ruger rings Weaver rings The first shows curved "claws" on the bottom, which engage the divots on the sides of the Ruger mounts. For recoil resistance, there is a foot which hangs down and fits a semi-circular slot on the top of the mount. The...

    1911 grip safety question

I'm only a kitchen table gunsmith, but I have detail stripped our 3 1911's quite frequently. I managed to stone sear faces, replace the 3-leaf springs, replace factory triggers with adjustable triggers, and run into grip safeties which didn't like the new triggers. My best guess is that...

Is Constitutional Carry a good idea?

Yes, Constitutional Carry is a good idea. Hopefully (when Satan starts lacing up his ice skates), there will be at least as much concern with providing some schooling on this as there is for driver's education. Together with a justice system which uniformly applies penalties for misuse of...

safety glasses suggestion for while at the range...

The same site referenced above has this as well - Safety glasses insert This one fits the Uvex Genesis, a fairly low-cost type of safety glasses which have a variety of different colored lenses available. Yellow works well for me when shooting in bright overcast, dark grey for sunshine...

    My apologies

Best wishes for recovery. My concern at the moment is that I don't have oxygen-deprivation, or any other reason, to explain any aberrant behavior I might exhibit. :)

    Minimum Distance to Bore Sight

I've had pretty good luck with using the cartridge-style laser boresighters to verify zero at fairly close range (like 25 yds), but there is a trick involved. The instructions said to sight-in using a conventional procedure at 100 yds or so, then insert the boresighter and mark on a small...

How well do bore snakes work?

You apparently haven't read the various threads about trying to remove one. The boresnake is soft, and it tends to expand and grip the bore as you try to force it out. Anything you use to drive it out has to be stiff enough to resist bending and soft enough to not damage the bore. (The example...
