    Lock n load AP questions

Good point. I do not use any bullet feeder and load bullet on upstroke at station 4. The universal PTX works ok in this scenario yet I could see the benefits of the DAA version.

    Lock n load AP questions

Or, the Universal PTX from C-Bar Armory @ $20. Been using one for a while after powderfunnels.com was no more. https://www.cbararmory.com/apps/webstore/products/show/6344388?siteId=46539306&locale=en-US

Lee Pro 4000 - Solid choice for the money

Thanks! I'm a fan of the 2x4 benches and have 3 of them. The one where the Lee Pro 4000 is mounted is 8' long and doubles as workbench for firearms. The one where I built the drawer is only about 5' and my 650 is mounted on it. Wonderful setup. I've found that bolting a 2x4 to the wall and...

Lee Pro 4000 - Solid choice for the money

Let me start by giving some background as to my experience and my equipment. I have a Dillon 650 with quick change setups for 9MM and .45ACP and a few extra enhancements added. I also have a Hornady LNL AP that is also setup for quick change between 9MM, .45ACP, and .38/.357. I've been...

    Hd .45

I second the FN FNX-45. I own one and also owned the FNP-45. 15-round magazines yet the grip is not too large. I have smallish hands myself and it fits me just fine. Also, it is hammer fired so you have second strike capability. In addition, has both manual safety and a decocker built in...

    Mid-range 1911

Hahahaha....Ooopps. Got crazy with the 'k' I guess. Issue corrected.

    Mid-range 1911

My vote would be Ruger SR1911 in either the 5" or the Commander. I currently own the 5" model and it is worth more than the asking price. I own 1911's ranged from $3K to $400 and at the $700 price point, Ruger beats my Springfield.

Looking to add a 2nd 1911 to my collection

This would be on the upper end of your range, but the STI Trojan 5.0 is, by many accounts, one of the best 1911's at this price point. I own one currently and this is my second. I'd say it's obvious that I agree with many on this one. I own the Ruger SR1911, several others, and have...

    Ruger SR-1911 vs Armscor/RIA/Citadel 1911

I have owned approximately 25 1911's over the years and currently own an SR1911, (2) Taurus 1911's, Colt 1991, Springfield, and a Trojan 5.0. The SR1911 is a sweet piece for the money and could easily sale for more than what they ask for them IMHO. Is it worth $200 more compared to the...

Low- to mid-range 1911 battle. The best "pound for pound" (dollar for dollar?)

My votes by price point: $800 - Springfield Range Officer $600 - STI Spartan $700 - Ruger SR1911 $500 - Taurus 1911 Sub-$500 - Rock Island Tactical The Taurus has more features than other guns above and below its price point and therefore some 'upgrades' are not the costly variants. An example...

    Looking for a hi-cap 45

I own the FNP-45, FNX-45, and recently sold an XDm 3.8. I bought the FN's to be my bedside gun and I have only one gripe about them and that is magazine availability and price of magazines. The FN's have the softest felt recoil of any .45 I've shot and I've shot my fair share. I also really...

    Hornady LNL with S&B Brass?

They were my original factory loads and i'm now on my 3rd loading of them. My 550 and 650 have not given me problems with this particular brass.

    Hornady LNL with S&B Brass?

Hello All, I recently aquired a new Hornady LNL and I've set it up next to my 650. On my first run, I noticed that about every 5-10 rounds, the brass would hang hard on the Ez-ject where the head of the brass would try to ride over the ez-ject nub. The brass I was using was all S&B. I...

    Pt1911?

I own a blued non-railed version and a stainless railed version. I own custom Colt's, STI Trojan, Springfields, etc and I purchased the first Taurus knowing that it was not likely going to be in the same realm as my other 1911's. As mentioned previously, you do get a significant amount of...

    1911 purchase decision help

Was the STI Trojan considered and removed from your consideration? If not, it might be worth a few minutes of your time. I'd pick this over the SA TRP and I own both. If the three you listed was really going to be the final list, I'd pick the TRP.

Tell me about my new FNS-9?

Well, I can't directly speak to the FNS-9, but I do own an FNP-45 and an FN Hi-Power. I own many 1911's from mid to high end and I find myself shooting the FNP more than the 1911's. FN doesn't make junk. Some might take issue with their magazine prices and availability, but you won't hear much...

Upper end 1911 for under $1000?

I second the STI Trojan recommendation. I have owned TRP's (nice guns) and still own Colt's of various varieties. Out of the box, in my opinion, the STI Trojan is the best bang for a $1K 1911.

    px4 compact .40

I haven't called them to verify this information, but CDNNinvestments has been advertising the PX4 40 Compact for 3-4 months now. Great price for it as well. Actually, the are advertising both the 9 and the 40.

    1911 Refinish Project

Just my two cents.... I tried 2 of the Brownells spray and bake finishes and neither were up to my standards, which really aren't that high. I spent a bunch of time working on the pistol and in the end I just wasn't happy. I ended up sending the pistol to Mac's and it was far less...

Why not much talk about STI?

+1. As a owner of many different types and manufacturers of 1911's, my favorite of any I have ever owned is the STI Trojan 5.0 and this is not the most expensive one. I value any product that is a class leader when comparing quality, cost, support, etc. The Trojan is my clear winner.
