If I zero my AR at 100 yards...

I have a couple suggestions for you. 1) Don't literally zero so that POI = POA at 100 yards. If you do that then you will have to hold over if shooting further. For practical shooting you want to be holding under, not over so you have a better view. At least have it shoot a few inches...

Help troubleshooting causes of a malfunction

I also want to know if those two rounds even fit in the chamber. Where was the BCG at exactly? I have seen oversized rounds in factory ammo before. For example a Winchester White Box .40 that literally wasn't even close to fitting into the chamber of my Sig. I mean not even close. Or some...

    The best-and worst-rifle safeties

You should use a safety, but not trust a safety. If you don't understand how to use the Mosin safety then you need to put that weapon down until you learn how to use it. You place the butt in the crook of your elbow and grasp it with your thumb and forefinger. Walking around in the field with...

    Lee Enfield Vertical Stringing

After following the advice I got in this thread I shimmed the stock with pieces of brass. I got my 200 yard 10 shot groups from 14" to 4.5". Thanks!

    Lee Enfield Vertical Stringing

I'm using PPU ammo, shooting off of a bench with sandbags. My groups with all kinds of other rifles are better.

    Lee Enfield Vertical Stringing

I have a Savage-made Lee Enfield No. 4 Mk I FTR '49 that is giving me major vertical stringing issues. My ten shot groups are about 14" tall and 6" wide at 200 m. I really want to get this fixed. I have lots of good gunsmiths nearby, but I'm not sure if they know Enfields. Should I have it...

    Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine Questions

    1) Have you noticed that the rear sight graduations are wrong? If it is dead on at 100 meters on the 100 meter setting, then it is low at 200 meters on the 200 meter setting. For 200 meters the 300 meter setting matches POI/POA. I'm shooting 150 gr Prvi Partisan, so almost exactly the original...

Modern equivalent of 357 revolver/carbine combo?

Actually, ammunition standardization doesn't really make sense for a civilian. You are not a trapped German in Stalingrad with a P-38 and MP-40 waiting for the Luftwaffe to fly ammunition to you. You are a civilian in one of the most prosperous countries on earth. You can buy any...

    Mosin Nagant as First Rifle?

Read this USMC rifle marksmanship manual: http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/MILITARY/united_states_marine_mrcp_3-1a%20-%2023_feb_1999%20-%20part01.pdf If you want to learn to shoot, buy a Savage or CZ bolt action with irons. 10/22's are inaccurate junk in my experience. A centerfire...

You are Reaching Retirement: What one Rifle.......

Well it's always good to minimize gun-related clutter. I am constantly selling guns and accessories that I don't use just to keep organized. Generally I'd say if the person could handle it, a .308 semi-automatic rifle like an M1A is the most versatile. You can shoot varmints with it or...

You are Reaching Retirement: What one Rifle.......

You could play a round of golf with just a 7 iron, but you'd be a lot better off with a whole set of clubs. And whether we like spending the money or not, the same is true of firearms.

    Why the 870 Express hate?

Generally the ones who complain about poor parts quality are talkers, not shooters. I have a Wingmaster 12 ga from the 80's and a new Express. Neither is smoother than the other, and the Express is perfectly reliable.

Springfield Armory or Fulton, which M1A?

    1) Congrats, that sounds like a great purchase TexasPatriot. 2) Worrying about exactly where and how an M1A's parts were made is extremely lame. Buy an M1A, put a thousand rounds through it, then complain if you want to. SAI has made over 225,000 M1A rifles but everybody on the gun...

Do you keep a rifle within arms reach at home?

Oh yeah, anybody who keeps a rifle handy is a "nut." There is no "need." No one would ever enter your property with criminal intent...You would have to be a real whacko to attempt to be prepared for something that would "never" happen. I'm going to show you two maps. They show burglaries...

    M1A sighting in

I sight my M1A so it shoots 3" high at 100 yards. This puts it close to right on at about 300 yards. I'd recommend starting at 25, then moving out to 100.

The return of a legend - the Sig P210

It's interesting that they are bringing back the old stuff. The P220 is the gun you draw when your tank has been knocked out of action, you are half-covered in diesel fuel, and you need to plug three Russian conscripts one-handed. The P210 is the gun you guard the border with in a dress...
