Loading 9mm right now. I've done several different combos of 115 gr FMJ or 125 gr lead RN with Titegroup, Power Pistol, and Unique. Right now my favorite is the 115 FMJ with 5.7 gr Power Pistol at 1.125 OAL.
So I've done several different loads, different powder and different bullets. I just loaded 4 more combinations. My question is, what criteria do y'all use for finding what load you like best? What do you look for? What distances do you shoot at?
Right now I'm just really concerned about...
Thanks for all the replies. I've wanted a P229 Elite Dark for awhile now and was hoping this would be my excuse. :D
I'm definitely looking at this as a way to hone my skills using my carry gun. I've looked into the other shooting sports, but they don't really interest me. IDPA was what I...
So, I want to get into IDPA, but the more I read up on it, the more I think I need a different gun. I love my Sig 225/P6, but it only holds 8+1. Even the qualifier has 3 sets of 10-round stages (if I understood it right). Should I look into a gun with a higher capacity before I go any further...
No where did I mention "dumbing down" load data, or specific bullet brands. If someone can tell me that a 115 gr FMJ is not one of the MOST loaded 9mm rounds, then my point about this particular manual will have been debunked. I'm not looking for specific brands', or even powders', load data...
The way I see it, manuals like this that may be targeted at beginners and novices should have specific load data for the most common calibers and bullet grains. The advanced stuff and "approximations" are a different story. I agree the manual has a lot of good information in the beginning...
Would that be similar to using the Lyman's 120gr lead for a starting point for 125gr lead? Lyman's lists Titegroup as 3.2-3.8 gr's at 1.065" OAL when the Hodgdon website lists it as 3.6-4.0 at 1.125" OAL. That seems like a pretty big difference.
And a buddy of mine loves his 5.7 gr Power Pistol...
Most of my load data has been from powder manufacturer's websites. But the 115 grn FMJ omission is what I was after. That's a pretty standard round for the "most popular military/police handgun and sub machine gun cartridge made in addition to being chambered by nearly every major handgun...
I started on a single stage solely for the purpose of getting to know how to reload. Working each stage over and over really gets you comfortable with the process. I like the speed of a progressive now, but I feel a lot more comfortable after working a single stage. Check Craigslist in your...
I kept hearing people talk about the Lyman's manual, like it's the reloading bible, so I decided to pick one up. I flip to the 9mm pages, since that's my primary reload, and am disappointed. It doesn't have load info for 115 gr FMJ, or the 125 gr lead that I've been using. Am I missing something?
My IWB holster is actually a Comp-Tac and I am really pleased with it, so I agree the company is great. I'll check out their belts as well. Thanks for all the input.
I'll check out those vendors. I just know that if I'm going to spend $50-75 on just a belt, I want it to be more than just a belt. Something tried and true. Hank's seems like a good place to start.
Someone showed me a video of a belt reinforced with kydex that held the entire weight of the gun...
I have a pretty nice, thick, western style leather belt that I wear on a daily basis, and it works fairly well for carry. I started looking around at the reinforced belts that hold the weight of the gun better and wanted to get y'all's opinion. What have you found to work the best? Most cost...
Cool I didn't see that on their site. I already have the drop with the die and everything, I just need that bar and that bracket to the right of it in that picture. I'll see if I can find part numbers for them and order them separately. Thanks!
I recently purchased a 450 off of eBay and am trying to convert the manual powder drop to the auto drop like on the 550. I know there is a bar that reaches toward the bottom that activates the rotation for the auto drop. Is that the only extra mechanism I need? I hope this isn't too confusing...
