You can put a standard A2 style wood stock on an m&p but its not NY compliant. To stay ny compliant you would have to custom make a spprter style stock with no pistol grip.The only thing off thr shelf I know of that accomplishes what you are thinking of is the ARES SCR with a wood stock.

On an AR, Its supposed to be torqued to 30ft lbs and then further tightened until the gas tube alignment is correct. Maximum torque for mil spec is 80 ft lbs. I would say didnt make it tight enough. I would tighten it to 30, then back it off and re torque it to slightly above 30
