Anyone clean their gun with shaving cream?

I used shaving cream to clean my M-60 back in the day, too. Fill that receiver up with foam, let it sit a spell, then flush with scalding hot water. Worked like a charm.

Quick, THR! Identify all the rifles in this picture! US Soldiers Thru History.

The Army ran out of replacement M-16A1 handguards (the right side, IIRC) and just started using the A2 ones to replace worn and broken triangular ones. I'm with kbob on most of the ID's, except I'm pretty sure from the first pic that it's an '03 Springfield and not a Krag. Also I don't see...

    Which should I work for?

You're not going to work as a PMC without military experience, at least no decent PMC firm. If you want to serve your country, join the service. If you want a lot of money, get a cafreer-either a trade (electrician, pipefitter, plumber, etc.) or a useful degree.

What was best/luckiest shot you ever made?

At a pin shoot at my club there were a couple of guys who were really in to it. One of them had spent the morning showing off his pin gun, a Para Ord high cap, he was saying he had $1200 into the gun. I was paired with him, shooting an Essex framed GI parts gun with better sights and a spray...

A few picts from the Eagle Cap machinegun shoot (Oregon)

The Chair is Against the Wall, in this case,is from "Red Dawn". It was actually a message braodcast to the French Resistance prior to D-Day, and was quoted in "The Longest Day". Cool pics! That view is unbelievable!

    John Travolta on guns

Starting with Patrick Purdy (and perhaps before) almost all of the mass shooters have been on some kind of mind altering drug-prozac, zoloft, etc. It's a heckuva "coincidence". IMO the Scientology thing isn't germaine to the topic. He's an American and can practice whatever religion he...

I need a military rifle history lesson!

Keep in mind that those dates are adopted dates. Actual dates of issue may have overlap/concurrence with other weapons. To whit, the Army may have type classified the M-16A2 in 1986, the issuance of the weapons takes time. the 2nd ID in Korea got A2's in 1988, the 101st in 1989. My reserve...

    Boston T. Party's Battle Rifle

Boston, We most certainly did field more rifles than the Brits. I hope my missive didn't come across as too critical! If so I apologize. I have most of your books and recomend them highly! Hologram of Liberty, in particular, is thought provoking and insightful. The rifle did play an...

    Boston T. Party's Battle Rifle

Boston says: "The Redcoats used mass fire of smoothbores for target area saturation. The militia used rifled-barrel long guns, i.e., aimed fire. Superior skill at arms and weaponry mattered then, and still does today" BTP, I love you, man, I really do. But that is not exactly correct. The...

aw crap AR15 screw up Help AR experts!

Take apart a Bic lighter, there is a long spring under the thumb piece that should fit, or a small spring from a ball point pen, the retracting kind, should fit, too, until you get the correct spring.

    Boston T. Party's Battle Rifle

Regarding Boston's Gun Bible, I think pretty highly of it, particularly for neophytes. he approaches the firearms from the same perspective as I, or at least one as similar to mine as to remain in my comfort zone. he admits his bias, unlike most gun writers who seem to be more advertising...

    Hiking the Appalachian Trail

Carry. In questionable states hide it deep in your pack. If you are mature enough not to wave it around, show other people, or let other people know you have it you should be OK. Most people who get nabbed will do one of those things. If, OTOH, you are one of those people who gets all excited...

Where is all of the .223

The production lines are for ammo-they'll use the same machines for .223, then .22-250. They just switch some parts, recalibrate, and run the ammo. So the switch from making .223 to 5.56 NATO is pretty easy. they may not use identical cases, but the cases are made on the same lines, bullets too...
