    Glock or HiPoint?

I'd tell them to buy a USED Glock or something like it AND get some basic training. I saw a fellow shooting a Hi Point have it blow up in his hand the other day. :what: IMO, training is a must. They could even take training and possibly borrow/rent a gun. After getting comfortable with...

    Recoil of 380 vs 9mm

Training!! Get her some training. My wife went to an all women's class put on by the NRA and loved it. She got to try out a lot of guns from 22-45 acp. THEY, not me, taught her proper grip, trigger control, sight alignment, etc. The information coming from another really helped her learn...

From the ladies... .38 snubbies, felt recoil?

My wife does not like shooting my 642 It has crimson trace grips on it and she says shooting even light target loads hurt her hand. She"ll shoot my 1911, Beretta 92fs and Kahr k9 all day long with no complaints, but not the 642. Her favorite of them all is the 45ACP.

    Model 500 question.

Twoclones, Reloading is the way to go for shooting the 500. It's also great for other caibers as well. I also recommend Dillon, but not for the 500. For the 500 and rifle calibers I use a Redding T7. (Turret Press) Like Redhawk I don't like a progressive when loading up "the big...

Biggest Groaner Thread When You See It (Again)?

Being from Alaska I had to vote for the "Best Handgun For Bear" thread. Although if I didn't talk with visitors from "Outside" about bears I'd only have the long winters and Sarah Palin to talk about. :uhoh:

Difference in Weight: Fully Loaded Glock 19 vs. 1911?

You missed the smiley face with the wink, Guys! Sorry, my sarcasm and a wink in my first post could be construed as highjacking this thread. Looking back I really didn't add anything to the original question. I can't even edit the bold print on the top of this post. I'll try to more high...

Difference in Weight: Fully Loaded Glock 19 vs. 1911?

The 1911 does weigh a little more , but it is a better gun in every other way. No one would ever or has ever disputed that. ;)

    handgun for recoil sensitive mother

You might want her to hold off on purchasing a gun until after a ccw class. My wife just took an all women's ccw+ class this last weekend. She said the age range of the ladies was about 25-70 years old. Several of the women rented a revolver or semiauto to take the class with. I call it a...

    How many rounds per hour?

"What is everyone's hurry??" Let's see, wake-up, work, pick up my two daughters, help cook dinner, clean up, homework, errands, clean the guns I shot last weekend, make 300 rounds 45acp, 200 rounds 9mm, 50 rounds S&W 500, 100 rounds 38 sp. I'm going shooting with the wife this weekend...

    How many rounds per hour?

I own a turret and a progressive press. On my turret press I can do about 150 rounds per hour. I'm very glad I was talked in to the turret press instead of the single stage press. I would not have liked changing dies every step of the way. On my progressive press I can easily do 400 rounds...

Lowest recoil in a 38 round

UglyOldPoorMan, I'm in the same boat as you are in. My wife doesn't like shooting my 642 either. I have laser grips on mine or I'd change to a softer rubber grip for her to use at the range. She'd much prefer shooting our 9mm beretta, 1911 45acp, and even our s&w 500!! (with lighter loads)...

    Good Source S&W 500 Bullets?

Can anyone recommend a good source for S&W 500 cast bullets? Cost is an issue. I intend to use them for practice. I'll carry factory ammo for when I bring my gun into the back country. Thanks in advance.

What did it take to FINALLY find the right weapon for YOU!

My first handgun was a 22 revolver. My father gave it to me right before he passed away. I didn't shoot it too much. Next my father-in-law left me is NIB Beretta 92fs. It has sentimental value so we'll be keeping it. I took a defensive handgun class and realized it was fine gun, but I...

Quick access safes opposed to quieter methods

"Simple... I have kids (small kids) who get up in the middle of the night sometimes and come in our bedroom to ask some goofy question." Hey, that sounds like my house!! :) I'll second the placing of the thumb on the door of the Gun-Vault as you key in the combination. It only makes small...

Why all the fuss about big bore handguns

Every man, women, and child over 5 years old needs a big bore up here!! Taking out the trash this morning I had to end the life of a small 10 foot brownie right here in Anchorage. Last year alone I dispatched 12-15 while doing various outdoor activities. :neener: If you don't carry at least a...

Taking my little sister shooting tomorrow

Get a few of those "shoot and see" type targets. You know the ones called orange peel that explode in a bright color? Keep it safe. Keep it fun. If she's being safe and having fun tell her how great it was to go shooting with her. She'll want to go again and again. You're a good brother.

    Handgun for bear defense

"But really, he needs a Mossberg 12 guage, alternately loaded with slugs and 00 Buckshot. That's what the locals carry." The above really isn't true. Some locals do that. Some locals carry a big old can of pepper spray. Some locals carry a "bear gun" (rifle). Some locals carry... (name your...

    Most gun friendly, beautiful state?

Alaska is cold, bitter cold. Ugly too. All those mountain vistas are a myth! Every single person is mean too. Yeah, mean. Fishing stinks as well. Ugly men and especially ugly women. Both have way too much hair on there body to keep warm! I include myself here. You can't even justify...

    Bear gun

When I guided other fly fishers I carried a shotgun. A shotgun is a PITA when fly casting. This summer when I feel the need I'll be carrying a S&W 500. I've started reloading for it so I can practice every time I go to the range.
