odd question here, but what I'm looking to do is not to clean the gun per se, but sanitize. it is a used gun and i'd like to make sure it is properly sanitized from a bacteria removal perspective. i sure as heck aint gonna throw it in the dish washer, so wanted to see what you guys recommend...

    Most Accurate Vintage Rifle?

I'm fairly new to 'vintage rifles' (K31, Mauser, SKS, etc) and wanted to get a better idea for some of the more desirable vintage rifles that can shoot sub moa without much work needing to be done. Price range would be helpful, and pictures welcomes :)

Remington 700 SPS vs SPS Tactical

Is one more accurate than the other? I would almost think the non-tactical sps is more accurate, or easier to control at least with the slightly longer barrel. trying to decide which would make the better long range bench shooting rifle.

Remington 700 SPS vs SPS Tactical

Can someone outline the exact differences between these two rifles? the Remington site does not have details on the SPS tactical. Aside from the barrel being 20" instead of 24", I was wondering what other differences there are. Any noticeable differences in accuracy?

Remington 700 5R that much more accurate than Remington 700 SPS out of the box?

The Remington 700 SPS in .308 would set me back about $600. The 5R goes for about $1100 where I am due to high demand. For ones who have owned both, how much of an accuracy difference have you experienced out of the box between the two rifles with similar rigs, shooting at similar distances...

Best sub-$500 Scope for Precision Long Range Shooting?

And by long range, I mean about 300-400 yards tops. In most cases, I will probably shoot right around 200 yards. The scope I am currently considering is a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x44PA. Before I pull the trigger on this one, I wanted to get some more opinions on other options I should consider...

    What twist rate for .223

hi there, another forum member gave me the following advice. just something to consider since I see that you are also a CA resident and plan on hunting. out of curiousity, what do most lead-free bullets weigh anyway? "Andrew...I would look for a .223 that has a 1/9 rate of twist in the bbl...

.243 lowest cost, best all around round?

thanks for the feedback matt. i didn't even know i had to look at the twist rate of the bbl, that is helpful. i was giving good consideration the the savage model 10 rifle also, which also comes with a packaged scope. i see that you're from the south bay as well. good too see a fellow CA guy...

.243 lowest cost, best all around round?

thanks for all the feedback folks. this has been very helpful. so the verdict for me is: buy a .223 for now for my plinking/varmint shooting, and a .308 in the future for bigger game hunts. Looks like two rifles for intended purpose is the way to go. Any other viewpoints, just let me know...

best value .223 bolt action rifle combo? separate scope? bolt or semi-auto?

I'm looking at either the Howa 1500 ranchland combo, which comes with the Nikko scope or a Savage Arms 223 package gun, which also comes with a scope (don't know the brand). I know packages are usually not the best way to go, but due to budget this seems to be the most cost effective way to get...

Eating your kill.. but what about varmint?

So to start, I am a catch and release bass fisherman, and whatever I kill I will usually eat - i hate seeing flesh go to waste for no good reason. Unfortunately in the world of hunting, there's no 'catch and release'. I prefer to eat what I kill, but plan to start off with smaller game hunting -...

.243 lowest cost, best all around round?

I'm new to the hunting world, and deciding on a good versatile rifle. .243 seems to fit the bill, as it can knock down varmints without destroying to a bloody mess, and also powerful enough to hunt deer with at a later time. I will primariy be hunting varmints with the rifle to begin with, but...

    Savage Arms 243 - light/varmint barrel?

Remington 700 has a varmint version, which I believe has a ligher barrel. Does Savage arms have the same thing? I'm looking at a Savage 10 10GXP3.243 w/ Winchester 3-9x40mm Scope, and was wondering if there is a light/varmint barrel version. Thanks.

    Consolidating down to one

jackstintson and sav, i wish i was on that boat still. i love just having the variety of guns, and like jack said, just to hold and look at them if anything! it's just with the cost of ammo and poor economy in general, i've decided to consolidate down to one. it was a tough thing to do believe...

    Consolidating down to one

regular joe - i hear you on the glock. that gun never failed on me once either, but i could just never shoot it as accurately as i wanted to (obviously me and not the gun). btw, 33 rd mag eh? i'm jealous! sigh, unfortunately i live in a state called california and those are not allowed. we get...

    Consolidating down to one

After shooting for about two years and going through a wide variety of guns, I've come to realize while it is fun to 'add to the collection', when it comes down to it, there were only a few that I would count on 100% to save my life. When I say 100%, this means a gun that has never jammed or...

Ruger 10/22 for Lefty? or does not matter?

Hi - I don't believe Ruger makes their 10/22 model for lefties. Question is, does it really make a big difference? Wanted to know if there are any lefties on here shooting rifles made for right handers, and if you have had any issues. I'm fairly new to long guns, so thought I'd ask before I made...

    springfield XD/glock/or CZ?

lubbockdave, having fired all three of those guns, the TS for a range gun was superior for me. The CZ TS does not fire anything like the 75b or SP-01, both of which I own. While the 75b and SP-01 are made both for combat, the TS is meant for sport shooting. It has a very heavy steel frame and...
