    Tang Sights for Marlins

Man, how do you get your sight to stay together long enough to shoot it? I've got the exact same set up and everytime I fire a few rounds, the sight falls apart. Not sure which one it is, Marble or Lyman, but it doesn't have any markings. It was on the gun when I got it.

    .25-06 favorite loads?

My model 70 loved the 100 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip bullet with 56.0 grains of IMR-4831 powder, Federal 210 primer and Winchester case. This load is max though and I'd suggest starting lower and working up. Never had a deer take a step after the shot. I got 1/4 inch groups at 100 yards, and a...

Got a good .243 Win load to share?

I've always used a 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip backed by 44.0 grains of IMR-4831 with Federal 210 primers and Winchester case. Always been deadsy on deer and accurate as can be. Chronograph readings with this load out of my 20 inch barrel M-70 was 3020fps ave.

280 groups went to 5 and 6 in.

I"ve had the same thing happen to me with simmons and tasco world class scopes. It didn't happen with the tasco until this last year when I had the crosshairs on an antelope at 300 yards! Went back to the truck and got the 270 with the redfield.

    Nikon ProStaff vs Buckmasters

I have a pro staff that I've had on my Omega for a few years shooting 100 to 150 grains of powder. It's never lost zero or clarity. I'd have to compare the clarity with my leupold varXII. I actually like my nikon better.

    .308 20" vs 26" barrel

If you're a reloader, you're gonna have to try the different powders and bullets to get your best load. I've got a 700LTR with the 20 inch barrel and was shooting right with the guys with the longer barrel robars at 400 and 500 yards. I've not shot it any further than that. I've taken alot of...

    Opinions/Experiences with 1x4 optics

I"ve got a 1.5x4.5 Bushnell Trophy shotgun scope that I've used for years on a 308. It's never lost zero and I love the short eye relief when hunting in heavily wooded areas. The circle in the middle of the crosshairs are great as it's the same size as a deers vitals at 25yards set on 1.5...

    Bi-pods - practical uses?

I can see some uses for them but they're a hinderance to others. In eastern Oklahoma were I hunt most, you won't hardly ever see one on a rifle. In the western part of the state, you'll see quite a few of them. Varmint hunters can get alot of use from them. Snipers also as they have to stay on...

    Wolf Ammo?

Sorry Robo, I was referring to the Wolf Ammo. After seeing guns destroyed with it on my ranges, I haven't allowed any steel case ammo. It's all pretty much made the same, just put in different packages.

    Wolf Ammo?

Sorry, but I've seen too many rugers blown extractors and ARs with peeled back receivers. I've got too much money invested in my gun to shoot it in mine!

Looking for a good .223 round for home protection

223 for home protection is too close. No matter what ammo you use, it's most likely going to overpenetrate. Even the military recognizes this and uses the shotgun for close quarters encounters. If the 12 guage 870 was to heavy, get her a lighter 20 guage and use low recoil buckshot. That's the...

    45-70 help

I've shot several marlin 45/70s. I just got the 1895CB for my personal preference, but a buddie has the guide gun. While shooting it from the bench with some of his father-in-laws handloads, I was getting 1 inch groups at 100 yards, plenty more than what you need for bears up close, but nice to...

    remington 700 sps tactical .308

I've got an LTR since the first year they came out. I've not shot it over 600 yards but it shoots better than MOA all the way out to there. If I were wanting to shoot farther than that I would want the longer barrel for more velocity. An inch drop at 400 yards translates into alot at 1000. As...

45-70 or a 444 Marlin, Which would you choose?

I've had a 444 marlin in the past and have been shooting some different 45/70s lately to see which one I wanted. For what I wanted it for, I settled on the 45/70 for the versitility. I can load it heavy for big game when out west, lighter faster bullets for deer in my area, and light cast loads...

    .22-250 on deer?

I know several guys that use a 22-250 for dear as they are about the same body mass as a man. If I were gonna use one, I'd load the 60grn partition from Nosler, or the Barns copper bullets in 60 grain or heavier. The Barns don't have lead to shed weight and should have better penetration. If...

Where to buy winchester 70 coyote action

The action used in the coyote is the same action used in the other rifles. Just find one with the bolt face you're looking for. If not, try the FN actions, they are the winchester M70 actions. In fact, FN is not making the model 70 for winchester in S.C. since winchester quit making them...

    300 Remington Ultra Mag

You're right Harley. I plan on putting a muzzle break on the mag and mainly use the marlin with medium cast loads for fun. It won't get loaded to max unless I'm in bear country.

    300 Remington Ultra Mag

Again, thanks guys for all the great info you've provided. The more info I get from you and reading up on, I might not be in too much need for another rifle for anything else with the versatility this one cartridge seems to have. I'm eager to find an 06 load for local hunting and then the...

    300 Remington Ultra Mag

Yea, I saw those different loads. It makes for a very versitle rifle, but I can't let the wife know about it. She will think I only need one rifle!

    300 Remington Ultra Mag

Thanks alot guys, all of your information is exactly what I was looking for. I love to reload and to me, tinkering with the different bullets and powders to find that "majic sweet spot" load is most of the fun! I figured the really slow powders like retumbo or rl25 were gonna be my best bet...
