You'll find lots and lots of IDF soldiers walking around with assault rifles...no, of course, not the same as packing yourself, but it is somewhat comforting.
My experience is that prices are up - most significantly in 5.56 but in all calibers. I shoot mostly .308 and .45, which are not as heavily used in the military, and the prices are substantially more than they were 3-4 years ago.
It's not hard to get an Oregon license...several Washingtonians I work with have one, and they went through Portland. I have not done it myself, but I understand it's not a huge hassle.
