I bought my uncoated stainless steel cleaning rod from Dewey. Don't know if you like the style of handle it has but for me I've used Dewey products for years and like them very much.
I sent in my membership application just this past Monday after a three year hiatus. I eventually want to become a lifetime member but I can't afford it right now. Thanks to the NRA, pro 2A advocates, and others, I really appreciate all the effort.

I bought a Model 638 Airweight last fall which is my first J frame revolver and the first thing my FFL dealer said to me was that I should expect a bit of recoil. I don't consider myself to be recoil sensitive but shooting this revolver with the stock two finger grip was uncomfortable to say the...
My very first handgun was a Taurus PT99 (Beretta 92F knockoff). If I could do it all over again, my first handgun would have been a S&W Model 686 Plus with 4" barrel. BTW, the Taurus is long gone and the Model 686 Plus is still around.

I love to shoot my S&W Model 686 Plus with 4" barrel. Accurate when I do my part and fun as heck. For semi auto, my Glock 19 is my go to gun for home defense and range fun.

At the moment, my S&W Model 41 is the most expensive handgun I own. But now I am wanting a Dan Wesson 1911 Valor or Specialist. :D

Thanks all to those that gave honest considerate responses to my OP. The first time I shot my S&W Air weight Model 638 which I bought a few weeks ago I shot about 300 rounds and a third of that was +P rounds. It did take a toll on my shooting hand which I had carpal tunnel syndrome. I give you...
Anyone knows of a company that makes quality shooting gloves? I bought a pair a few years ago and they fell apart after a few uses. I tried ordering from Gripswell but they screwed up my order and I definitely will not order from them. I am looking for gloves to use when shooting my S&W Model...
I just received my new S&W Model 638 yesterday and I'm just loving it. I was looking at the 357 magnum version (Model 349) but decided that I would not be using magnum rounds in a lightweight and small frame revolver. I'll shoot magnum rounds through my large frame Model 686+ revolver.
The J...
I just purchased a new Model 638 from Bud's Gun Shop for $397 shipped which is in your price range. It looks like a fun revolver.

Damn, a 4 inch barrel on a revolver is illegal in Canada?!?! Hawaii gun laws are really bad but Canada laws really suck:D.

I would try Flitz first if it is fine surface scratches. If it is really gouged, you could use fine steel wool or scouring pad but it will leave swirl marks.

:D+1
RTFM, watch a YouTube video, field strip the frickin gun a few times and it is all good. Read so many negative posts and feedback about taking apart the Ruger but when you look at all the available references on the Internet field/detail stripping is easy to do and understand.

I'm sure you won't go wrong with any of the scopes the OP listed. For me, after a little research I went with a Nikon ProStaff Target EFR rimfire 3-9X40mm scope. Also using Burris Zee Signature medium height scope rings.

Of all the hand guns I own, the one that exceeded my expectations in areas of accuracy, enjoyment in shooting, and finish is my S & W 686P with 4" barrel. I can shoot it all day or until I run out of ammo.
I would love a 10mm just to have as it is kind of an novelty here locally. Ammo is virtually nonexistent locally and if can be found it's expensive. I'll stick with my 9mm, 45acp, and .357 magnum unless I win the Megabucks. Oh wait, Hawaii doesn't have a lottery:banghead::cuss::what::fire::D
First revolver I feel in love and still have is my S&W model 686P 4" (7 shot). It's a great shooter, very accurate when I do my part, and will definitely outlast me. It's not a pocket gun but still easy to wield in and out of my holster. Can't wait to shoot is again next open day at the range.
I'd go with a Ruger Mark III Hunter with a red dot optic as my first choice. I also like S&W .22LR revolvers. For ultimate shooting pleasure and accuracy, a S&W Model 41 with an Aimpoint Micro H-1 red dot optic.
